Guerrero speaks
In light of UCLA's recent marketing approach, including taking out newspaper and radio ads trying to lure Fresno State fans to the Rose Bowl for Saturday's game against UCLA, Bruins athletic director Dan Guerrero told me tonight he will take a more active role in the marketing program.
I will have more on it in Friday's paper.

Interesting.
Brian,
let me play copy editor here for a second and give your post some more punch (and some wishful thinking):
"In light of UCLA's recent marketing disaster, in which taking out newspaper and radio ads intended to lure Fresno State fans to Saturday's UCLA game at the Rose Bowl, Bruins Athletic Director Dan Guerrero told me tonight he will take a more active role in the marketing program.
I will have more on it in Friday's paper, and it may include Guerrero's apology to Head Coach Rick Neuheisel and his staff, the players, parents, athletic department staff, and the fans, for the series of recent advertisements that took a well-intentioned but extremely short-sighted goal of increasing attendance at the Rose Bowl through, and therefore athletic department revenue, by appealing for more red-clad Bulldogs fans to crowd the Rose Bowl.
UCLA officials first said the ads were intended to lure UCLA fans from the Central Valley, but that flimsy excuse was quickly exposed as a simply a lie.
Instead the ads and subsequent criticism may undermine what will be a long-term effort to return the Bruins to Pac-10 dominance and national prominence.
oops! typo with an extra "through" guess I won't be a good copy editor after all.. doh.. i mean d'oh!
Now he's taking a more active role in the marketing program? He's accountable for the entire AD so he should have prior knowledge of all UCLA marketing activity. Sorry, Dan, but it's part of the job description.
The person in charge of marketing should be fired...and DG should be under serious scrutiny for allowing this stupidity to occur. Yes, you want to maximize revenue...but while undermining your own program? And loyal market?
Where is the leadership in the AD?
Calm down Mr. Anonymous, it's not that big a deal. He has bigger fish to fry. Quit trying to make a mountain out of mole hill.
