Honeycutt to UCLA

| | Comments (10) |

UCLA received a non-binding oral commitment from Sylmar High's Tyler Honeycutt. He's a forward who UCLA coach Ben Howland has recruited hard.
"He has committed to UCLA," his mother, Lisa Stazel said. "He just called (USC coach) Tim Floyd to tell him."

Finally a 5 star recruit. I hope he's worthy of the ranking and lives up to it.

Who cares about the stars? I trust Howland's decisions. Look what he did with Westbrook! He obviously knows what he's doing!

Ty-ler Ho-ney-cutt.... I can hear the chants already!

Actually,

If you knew what was really going on, you would have known that Howland got in on Westbrook very late and only after many recruit experts pushed him to do so, one of my friends being one of them.

So, 5 star recruits don't matter? So, Jordan Farmar didn't matter, neither did Kevin Love? So, Jrue Holiday won't matter either right? Wake up!!!! The best and most successful players at UCLA have all been 5 star recruits. The teams we lost to in the Final Four had more 5 star recruits and more talent and athleticism than us. While BH has done a great job, even he will admit that coaching is nothing without talent. Shoot, even the great John Wooden will tell you that. I love Howland. I have met Howland and been to his house. Bottom line though, he is a meglomaniac and a control freak and rubs many people the wrong way. He sometimes needs to chill. He needs to learn the carrot and stick approach better. Let me tell you, this is coming from somebody who personifies intensity and is a meglomaniac. Therefore, if this is what I feel abiout BH, what do you think other people think?
