House keeping

Here's a few tidbits that I've been getting asked about, so I thought I would clear up.
--Running back Raymond Carter was healthy and ready for the game against Arizona. I talked to him after the game, and he said his lack of playing time was a coach's decision.
--Tailbacks Kahlil Bell and Derrick Coleman did, indeed, get into a scuffle during Tuesday's practice. It's not that these things happen all the time, but it's not uncommon, either. I was there when Bell was talking about it after practice, and he said all the right things about it being competition and sometimes emotions get the best of a player.
To me, it is much ado about nothing. I found it to be worth nothing more than one line at the end of my notebook.
--I keep forgetting to mention this, but Chinonso Anyanwu has moved back to defensive end after spending a month at linebacker. It happened a few weeks ago, but I kept forgetting to bring it up.

Okay, so the scuffle was football related? Or were they each talking about each others' mama?

Brian, you don't find it weird that two tailbacks would get into a fight? BTW who won the fight?

One, if a fight breaks out the safest athletes in all sports are probably football players in full gear (or hockey goaltenders).

Two, Bell has to be frustrated with his fragile physical condition and undoubtedly is a little touchy right now. Wouldn't take much for him to go over the edge.

I HATE ANY RUNNING BACK WHO TRIES TO PLAY BETTER THAN ME OR STEAL MY PLAYING TIME!!!! I PUNCHED CHRIS MARKEY LAST YEAR! I PUNCHED COLEMAN THIS YEAR! FORGET THEM ALL!!!

I AM THE BEST! I WILL WIN THE HEISMAN!!!

Senior punching a Freshman. Nice leadership! Seems to me Bell got spooked because Coleman ran "good" during the game. "Good" in quotaion marks.

From an insider Coleman's the problem!

Brian, did Rick just forget about Carter being healthy and available on the sideline?

Maybe Bell mistook Coleman for Chris Markey.

Bell seems determined to be a perpetual cancer on this team.

Bell is not the cancer. Losing is the cancer.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
