Late bird special
With it looking unlikely tailback Kahlil Bell will play because of a sprained ankle, several of UCLA's coaches told me Chane Moline would be the starter and Raymond Carter would serve as the backup.
You can read more about it in Wednesday's paper.
Also, I will be on 1320-AM in Salt Lake City on Wednesday morning for those who care to listen.

I don't understand why Chane gets in outside of short yardage situations; even then he has trouble being effective. He's garbage, play Carter or the other youngsters (Aundre Dean, Derrick Coleman, Jonathan Franklin).
Agreed. Look for the Bruins to have less than 50 yards rushing in this game.
moline vs unga will certainly be a battle of the big boys
Moline must be far superior at blitz pick up and have a better handle on the playbook, because he does not have the skills package to play D-1 running back. I think maybe the coaches are concerned about the young guys ball security.
GO Bruins!! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
Does anyone want to see Craft decapitated? No? The RBs need to block instead of playing matador to the oncoming LBs and DEs.
As a Cougar fan I am kind of surprised by the comments above. I was worried about the Bruins ability to stop this potent offense and anyone will score points on the Cougs this year.
Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall believes he should be able to script a game play for play, share this information with any and all who are interested, and still go out and perform better. With the intent that somewhere the opponent will make a mistake that his team will capitalize on and result in victory. So far so good but the Bruins have given what look to be a better Cougar team on paper fits.
Their last three games (not including D2 NO. Iowa) have all been won in the last seconds. Utah-TD final min. UCLA- blocked FG final sec. WAS- blocked FG final sec. Somethings gotta give, right?
The last time BYU lost in provo was Broncos final regular season game in his first year against utah. Appeared on paper BYU would dominate. But utah jumped out big and held on in OT. UCLA will probably have to do the same. I think Norm Chow has a bit of a bitter taste for BYU and would love take part in crimpimg their recent success. Ive always thought he was the best in the business and its scary to see him on the otherside. Good Luck. Go COUGS!
Interesting comments from a CougFan. Unbiased, balanced, unemotional, and inciteful commentary. Think there might be a lesson here for L.A. sports' fans?
Okay, Anonymous calls our players "garbage," and noone jumps all over him. But if VB asks what Dohn's per diem is, he is called "Beavis and Butthead."
Chane Moline is not garbage. He is the most resilient back we have. The guy takes a pounding every game and gets right back up. Sure, he is not very fast, but it's not like our fast guys are going to be productive with our swiss cheese line.
VB how dare you talk about our o-line in such terms :)
pfffffff....
Anyone here going to the Cal Berkeley game this year? Does anyone here to go to the Bruin Bash?
Anonymous is anonymous Video-butthead- hard to give him slack...
The difference between your argument and that of the anonymous poster's is that the anonymous poster articulately expressed an opinion and backed it up with facts.
You, like you did here, usually resort to name-calling. Like I just did, to pay homage to you.
And yeah, I'm sure the Coug's fan is very unbiased. Why would he be? The Cougs aren't playing UCLA this week or anything...wait...
The lesson to be learned here is that folks need to stay on their side of the fence. Go ahead and read the other teams' blogs. That is fine. But when you start posting on them you are just asking for drama.
I guess that is your cup of tea Truth...
Bingo Rico - he's there to protect the QB first and foremost. He'll certainly get some touches, but picking up the LB blitzes will be his top priority.
Great comments CougFan, looking forward to this game.
Let it go VB, Jeeeeezzzzussss....
BD - do you think Theriot also gets more touches this week with the absence of Bell? Seemed like he was open quite a bit in the TN game when not lead-blocking, but IIRC only had one catch. Seriously, does anyone want to tackle that dude with the rock and a head full of steam?
What are you guys talking about?
BruinFBBB, who did I call a name? Why are you such a grumpy old man?
"Stillhatesmichaelfey,"
Why do you hate Michael Fey? He kinds looked like Sinbad.
You call people names on a daily basis seemingly. Just because it hasn't happened yet today doesn't mean its not coming. There is still a lot of daylight...
Wait for it....ooooh....you just called me a grumpy old man...
Can't stay out of your own way can you?
"Agreed. Look for the Bruins to have less than 50 yards rushing in this game."
So because Moline is STARTING the bruins will have only less than 50 yrds rushing??
yeah ok that makes sense. Starting equals playing the whole game....right
If we get less than 50 im sure it has to do with the OLine not Moline STARTING.
Moline is going to get first crack and if he takes advantage of the opportunity then he will get more carries. If not, they'll start to rotate people in. It is as simple as that.
Not sure what the problem is here. But yeah, o-lines tend to get too much blame when teams can't move the ball and not enough credit when a back goes off. Such is life...
The real issue is Max Hall. That dude is great so I hope our secondary is up to the challenge!
(See VB, that is how to make a realistic yet thoughtful evaluation...you may not agree with the content but the delivery was impeccable!)
Hey old-timer,
I complimented Moline earlier in this thread. Stop trying to make me out to be the bad guy on this one.
Those are not (and have never been) my intentions. I'm sorry if it came across that way to you.
My intentions are to provide you with examples on how to express your feelings more constructively without sounding like an 8th-grader.
You're doing much better today bud. Keep up the good work.
I practically laugh out loud every time I see the screen name of StillHatesMichaelFay. Classic.
Michael Fay lacked motivation. And that's something you just can't teach. Howland would have never even thought about recruiting him. He was too busy smoking pot up in the Saxon Suites to worry about actually jumping to get a rebound or getting in the gym to lift some weights.
VB...
I go to the bruin bash every year. part of the grill team with the bay area bruins, as a matter of fact. why do you ask?
c5load,
Just wondering. We always try to make it to Bruin bash when we go on the Bay Area trip every year. Look for me. Naturally, I'll be the guy with the GL2 video cam and the #41 jersey. GO BRUINS!
