Neuheisel tidbits
UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel just finished with his media briefing, and I will have the audio up later this afternoon.
Among the things Neuheisel said as his Bruins ready for Saturday's game at No. 18 BYU is "We certainly understand the magnitude of our competition,'' Neuheisel said.
Neuheisel said he watched both games involving UCLA and BYU from last season and season "both fundamentally sound, well-played ball games."
Neuheisel was also asked about running into USC coach Pete Carroll at a high school game Friday.
"I knew then we were on the right guy," Neuheisel said.
Neuheisel, who coached in the altitude of Boulder, Colo., said doesn't think the elevation at BYU (4,500 feet) is an issue.
"The people that didn't pay any attention to it were better off,'' he said.
On the injury front:
Neuheisel said he wasn't certain on the availability of running back Kahlil Bell (ankle sprain) out.
"I don't think we are ready to rule him out of the game. We'll wait and see,'' Neuheisel said.
Everett (dislocated toe) is making progress, but won't be ready for BYU. However, Neuheisel intimated Everett could be back Sept. 20 against Arizona.
Also, tight end Logan Paulsen had surgery on Friday to have a screw inserted in his broken foot, and remains out until at least November.

Brian, I had been worried about the altitude at BYU. Thanks for letting us know it's not an issue.
What's this I keep on hearing about the BYU attitude? What is that suppose to mean? Just because they are Mormons does that mean they think they're superior to us regular folk? I am so sick and tired of groups singling themselves out and acting all haughty. They're no better than you or me! Sure they don't drink coffee or coke (at least out in public) nor smoke cigarettes (well, a few of the women do) but I don't think that is any reason for a group of people to think they're somehow better. Really, this is quite upsetting and I am pissed! I hope Coach Walker's defense takes that snobby, pasty faced, toehead Max Hall and tears him in two. Especially Akeem Ayers blitzing from the blind side uses Max' inverted body as a pogostick then kicks Hall's fanny over the Wasatch mountains. "BYU Attitude!???" Yeah, whatever!
ummm, bro, altitude does not equal attitude...
Seriously hoping that was a joke from Fan4Life, but I don't see how the altitude ISN'T a factor. I remember the first time I went to see my brother when he was at the Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs) years ago. I believe that was 5800 ft or so. Granted, that's a lot higher than 4500 ft, but I thought I was going to pass out after running back to the car. It really does make a huge difference when you're coming from sea level.
Hell, even the ball will travel farther. I see at least one interception where the ball goes too far for Craft...
Good one Fan4!
What's all this I hear about the BYU players being a bunch of religious Morons? What's that supposed to mean? I know we at UCLA feel we have higher academic standards, but all the BYU players seem very well spoken to me. They don't sound like Morons at all!! And even if some were, why would BYU have a higher number of Morons than any other school?! This is outrageous!
