Norm on the offense

| | Comments (7) |

UCLA offensive coordinator Norm Chow said there was concern the running game is averaging less than a yard a carry through two games, but said part of the blame for the Bruins' lack of running game is circumstance.
"Both situations didn't give us the opportunity (to stay with the run)," Chow said. "We probably should have run the ball more, keep trying to run the ball in the second half. That was probably my fault."

Norm Chow could have easily put the blame on the players but didn't, that's class.

Comments for the day after sleeping on that loss and reading Brian's column and blog entries today:

Worst defeat in nearly 80 years...shameful in my opinion. I hope it will be activation energy for a turning point and not a carried as a heavy burden to weigh us down through the next 10 games.

SC has a great team and the rest of the PAC X is still chasing from a distance. Realistically, we have a long way to go. However, I don't think we will be the same team in early December and believe that we will be ready to fight that day!!!

Chow blames himself for Offensive problems realted to pass/run balance....a stand up guy! Way to take some pressure off the players through your comments. Glad to have you, Coach. Now let's score some points next week!!

Walker blames ATV for not pressing Collie at the Line of Scrimmage. Not quite the Chow approach, but he is a different kind of coach so I will let go of that quote and not dwell on the scapegoating tone of those comments. I doubt there will be a pattern there, Coach Walker. You should have corrected the mistake during the game if that was the key to the game plan.

Ekbatani is upset with blown assignments on the O-Line and I hope that is something they can get straight this week as we open the Pac X against AZ.

Harwell is classy in his comments giving credit where credit is due but and I think that Max will be in NY in a suit in December with a chance to take home some hardware. He is going to have some disgusting numbers when we get to December.

Reggie Carter says all the right things about effort and demonstrated heart in his performance but I don't know how to take the "I guess it happened again" quote??? Is that the underlying Dorrell mentality that we need to dismiss from the collective mind? ...

Lots of work to do in practice and in the meeting room this week and I hope that the staff can get these guys ready mentally to come out and play well at home. They need to remember that it is only one game and Saturday can't be re-played. There are 10 more to play and we need to put this behind us.

Go Bruins!!

I truly believed after the Tennessee game, Norm would have started the game in a no huddle offense hoping to get Kraft in a rhythm early. Wasn't going to matter, Max Hall and the BYU O-line was just too good.

Very classy comment by Norm. Let's hope this is a "never again" moment for all future teams.

I still can't believe that this week's coaching staff is the same one that beat Tennessee last week. Mistakes, a shortage of planning and lack of adjustments were prevalent - it just didn't seem like the coaching staff was ready. I just don't get that.

Coach Chow is all class. He learned it at BYU.
BYU was just plain better. I would put them up against USC any day. I was at the game and they are very very solid. Why don't we invite them into the PAC 10? It makes a ton more sense than having a couple of the other schools in the conference.
I suspect that my Bruins will be back within another game or two. This coaching staff is on the right path, it will just simply take some time to Gel.
All I can say about saturday is WOW. BYU is good.

Bradley Caldwell is a delusional UCLA fan. Let's get something straight here. BYU and USC do not belong in the same field. USC has much more speed and talent. Great win for BYU and they played extremely well, but I'm pretty sure that a bad UCLA team was the biggest contributor to the debaucle.

This team, like the others in the past couple of seasons, is mentally weak. They do not know how to face adversity on the road and make the necessary adjustments. You can blame the coaching, but the players need to be accountable too. BYU is more talented than UCLA, no question. But not 59-0 more talented.

Yep. Norm is right. ZERO points is probably some his fault.
