Recruiting ahead

| | Comments (2) |

UCLA coaches were out in force watching Friday's high school action in three states -- California, Oregon and Utah -- as the work continues for the 2009 class.
However, the Bruins are also working hard and already identified a handful of 2010 recruits the coaching staff likes enough to offer scholarships.
They are:
Robert Woods, WR, Gardena Serra High
Anthony Barr, RB, Loyola
Dillon Baxter, WR, San Diego Mission Bay (committed to USC)
Jake Heaps, QB, Issaquah (Wash.) Skyline
Seantrel Henderson, OT, St. Paul (Minn.) Cretin Derham Hall
Chris Ward, OT, Santa Ana Mater Dei
John Young, TE Loyola

Brian, you're doing a great job reporting on recruiting... but I was just wondering if the coaching staff is cool with you reporting this on the net (or do they not care either way?) The reason being, they're obviously devoting a lot of time/resources to vetting these new potential recruits, and by putting all the names on your blog, you may be alerting some other programs about who our targets are, and causing us to either have to offer early or lose a recruit to another program who may not have had any interest in one of our potential recruits. Again, if it's 'common knowledge' who these potential recruits are in the recruiting world, and obviously the school is aware of the stuff that you are reporting on, then I guess it's all good. Just wanted to check. Otherwise, great info.

The coaching staff doesn't have a say. They are not allowed to provide recruiting information to the media. That is an NCAA violation.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
