Answers, Part IX
Here is the ninth set:
Which current UCLA football player and basketball player has the personality to be a reporter (t.v. or other media) and not in a hammy way, i.e. peppering their reports with obscure comic book characters or pop culture references?
I think running back Kahlil Bell could do it because he is a very good talker, intelligent and comfortable in front of the camera. Defensiven end Korey Bosworth could do it as well.
Where do the FB recruits stand/sit when they attend UCLA games? Are they allowed on the field or do they sit in the stands?
They go on the field before games and are in the locker room, but they sit in the stands close to the field during the game.
Who do you think gives us a better chance to win and why, Kevin Craft or Ben Olson when he's healthy?
Olson, because he has a stronger arm, has beaten better teams and can stretch defenses.
Could you elaborate on what you consider to be Tedford's and Belloti's coaching deficiencies?
Both are good coaches, but cannot win the games needed to make them true national title contenders. Tedford is a great coach 95 percent of the time, but the other five percent he is trying to show how brilliant he is, and calls asinine plays (look at UCLA's last few wins at the Rose Bowl against Cal) or makes foolish decisions.
Bellotti is a very good offensive coach, but tries to get too cute at the wrong time. Many times Oregon can line up and beat you with its offense, but he always wants to shuffle things around and spread defenses out, even when it is not necessary.
Last week you gave a cryptic answer to why Howland is no longer as animated on the sidelines. Come on, what's the real reason: has the administration told him to tone it down, or the boosters? (Don't leave us hanging like that!)
Nobody told him anything, but I have been asked to keep it confidential, and so I will. Sorry, but it is part of the trust I work so hard to build with people.
how do you pronounce KAI MAIAVA ? Is KAI-MAI supposed to rhyme like PIE-RYE ?
It is Kia like Rye, and My-a va.
Whats going on with the WR rotation? Austin and Embree are on top, but is anyone emerging from the rest of the group; Ketchum, Rosario, Johnson, Everett, etc. It seems they have all been battling the last few weeks to climb over eachother on the depth chart.
Yes, Austin and Embree are the leading guys, and once Everett gets back closer to being in complete shape, he will move higher. Rosario took a big step last week against Stanford, and the coaching staff remains frustrated that Johnson's work habits still need to improve.
Any news on when Snear might make his decision or where he is leaning after finishing up his visits?
Not really. I plan on calling him this weekend, though.
How do you write a hai-ku? what is the format? please explain five seven five.
Five syllables in the first and third lines, and seven syllables in the second line.
Can you grade the ofensive and defensive lines of each the pac 10 teams?
Actually, I cannot. I haven't seen them all.
What is your impression of Jayson Allmond?? A better offensive player or defensive player?? Who's a better FB...Tyler Gaffney or Allmond??
I haven't seen him to know. All I can tell you is people I trust say there are questions whether he can play defensive tackle at the Pac-10 level, which explains why he is supposed to come in as a fullback.

I still can't believe that Olson & Cowan went down the same day in practice. I wonder how different the season would be otherwise.
When did Ben Olson ever "beat" a respected SEC team with DBs like Eric Berry????
when did Ben Olson ever deliver in the clutch???
"respected SEC team" ? You do mean the 3-5 Vols, right?
