Can he play this year?
He has a 2.7 GPA and scored a 1050 on his SAT. Just another example of why the "he didn't get into UCLA because of grades" excuse is totally bogus.
I could be wrong, but that's actually a pretty decent GPA for a majority of football athletes.
I'm pretty sure the GPA and SAT standards are a lot different for athletes on scholarships than an average student applying to UCLA. You're comparing apples and oranges.
Brian, can you post the minimum requirements to get into UCLA on a football scholarship?
There isn't supposed to be a difference between admitting a kid as an athlete or just a regular student. UCLA leads the nation in special admits for athletes though.
actually Cal has way more special admits. don't know where 4:23pm is coming from, considering Brian Dohn has posted the numbers before.
Anonymous,
Please show the data which substantiates your claim. If you have not been paying attention to the blog, Dohn posts atleast 3 tags a week saying that UCLA does not admit a great deal of special admits on a year to year basis and, thus, as he believes, the program will never be consistently in the top ten. Furthermore, Dohn also notes atleast 3 times a week that Cal has a significant more amount of special admits in comparison to UCLA (e.g see Donovan Edwards). Lastly, there is ALWAYS a difference in regular students to student-athletes in regard to entry reqs. at every school.
I guess we could be like $uC and just report the top 50% of entry numbers to US News to climb in the rankings...or write a 6-7 figure check. Stop trolling and stop your pathetic attempt to be marginally useful in any aspect of your existence, you're failing.
dont respond to those fools. The subject has been discussed already. Theyre just trying to rally us up.
You are arguing semantics. UCLA does not lower standards for athletes as much as CAL does (one definition) but virtually all of the football players would not be admitted if they did not play football and as such are special admits (another definition) The bottom line is that the NCAA has a standard that a player must meet to be able to compete. If UCLA or anybody else decides to handicap thier team by imposing an arbitrary higher standard they can do so. THEY SHOULD JUST STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT IT AND USING IT AS AN EXCUSE FOR LOSING BOTH GAMES AND RECRUITS.
