Bad omen?
It was not be a good thing for coaches to be on UCLA's schedule next season, especially if you're from another conference. UCLA's first three 2009 opponents -- San Diego State, Tennessee and Kansas State -- all fired their coaches.
Also, Washington fired Tyrone Willingham, meaning 33 percent of the teams on UCLA's 2009 schedule will have a new coach. And, hey, the season is still two games from being over.

If Arizona loses to ASU don't be surprised to see Stoops' name added to that list.
in a couple weeks we will see petey added to that list also! 13-9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So that's four wins right there. Add in WSU and Stanford...there's six wins & bowl eligibilty already, without having to beat even one average team.
I would not call Stanford as "easy" win. They have a very good coach over there, and I expect them to be even better.
Nor would I say Tennessee will be "easy". Despite some deficiencies this year, they are still very talented and have a lot of possibilities and options on both sides of the ball.
The state of Washington looks to be another pushover, unless the Huskies pull a big coach in who can take the athleticism of Locker and get it going quick. He is a hard worker and will do anything to help his team, I would not be surprised to see him flowing in whatever offense they put him in.
I am just happy we get to start out with the beyond struggling San Diego St. Aztecs. They are a complete mess and whoever is Quarterback will benefit greatly from a mediocre first team to get a feel for what is happening.
Wow!! Bowl eligible. I can’t believe that you guys are content on just being bowl eligible for next year. Instead of striving for a pac ten championships, national championships, you are satisfied to going to Las Vegas or El Paso. That’s why Oregon, Oregon State, Cal, Arizona and ASU have jumped over you guys in being contenders in the Pac Ten. That’s why you fools are always second fiddle to USC in Los Angeles. Whooop dee do! Bowl eligible, that’s funny.
We need to worry more about our team than our schedule...for all the talk of this year's schedule being so difficult we will probably only end having played 3 top 25 teams (BYU, Oregon State and USC if Oregon State beats Oregon and knocks them out of the top 25).
What a bizarre coincidence...so along those lines, Abraham Lincoln two years to the day of his assassination was in Monroe, Maryland; two years to the day of his assassination John F. Kennedy was in Marilyn Monroe...
To Bowl Eligible (aka trOjan lover)
Where did you see anywhere on this blog that anyone was SATISFIED with being bowl eligible??? The Anonymous poster above stated that he/she thought that we had 6 easy games on the schedule next year which makes us bowl eligible ALREADY (key word!!!) We won't be SATISFIED until we are going to the Rose Bowl often and whipping your sorry excuse for an academic university on a yearly basis just like we did 8 YEARS IN A ROW!!! Did you even know that we beat SUC 8 years in a row or have you just become a bandwagon fan over the least few years like everybody else in LA? This makes your comment stating "That’s why you fools are ALWAYS second fiddle to SUC in Los Angeles" sound highly uneducated, although I am not surprised.
Also if UCLA was satisfied with being bowl eligible, why would Dorrell have been fired after going to a bowl every year that he was here????????? ANSWER: Because we are not satisfied with being bowl eligible.
Thank you BruinAZ... you took the words right out of my mouth ;)
Our best win this year was vs. Stanford, and even they didn't make a bowl. As mentioned two the teams we beat have already fired their coaches. We have ZERO quality wins. This is truly one of the worst seasons we have seen. The PAC-10 was dreadful this year and we are still in 7th place. CRN and staff have their work cut out for them next year. Looking for better days.
Tennessee is going to be tough next year if for no other reason, simply because it is a road game, three time zones away. There will be 105,000 hillbillies in the house, and our QB will be making his second start. No way that UT skimps on a coach either. The will be bringing in a name guy with experience.
It would be awfully ironic if our first game next season is against a teach coached by DW. It'd definitely make the game more competitive as he'd know the defensive personnel and playbook very well. (Especially since he WROTE our defensive playbook...)
BruinAZ,
very well said!
