Dragovic update
UCLA power forward Nikola Dragovic's case for alleged misdemeanor battery has bee set for a hearing next month, according to Los Angeles city attorney's office spokesman Frank Mateljan.
Mateljan said he did not yet know of the hearing date, and added from the hearing the city attorney's office could either file charges or not file charges.
"We reserve the right to come back and file if we so chose to,'' he said.
The hearing allows for the attorneys from both sides to meet and argue the merits of their case.

This is

I like how you use the word "argue".
'Argue' is legalese for 'debate.'
If the City Attorney is still equivocal about filing then it sounds like it is a wobbler and that the kid probably will skate. Might have to do 12-weeks of Anger Management, however, which is not a bad thing for most males.

Thanks for nothing Bud
Sorry, ONLY, LJ, or whoever you are, but if you are going to weigh in on legal matters, please have the slighest clue as to the legal system. First, the word "argue" is not legalese for anything. IN ITS COMMON DICTIONARY DEFINITION, argue means (in one sense) to reason for or against something. While this is somewhat synonymous with "debate" it is not technically debate. Lawyers do not "debate" anything.
Next, if the City Atty has not yet filed charges, there is nothing to "debate" or argue in the first instance. When Dragovic was released, a date was set for him to appear in court. If no charges have been filed by that time, he will either be released with no further penalty and the bond for his bail will be exonerated -- OR -- the City Atty will ask for additional time to review the case -- OR -- any number of other possible outcomes. I seriously doubt there will be a "plea bargain" for Anger Management if no charges are pending. That would be a weak position by the CA (i.e., "We haven't file yet, and are equivocating, but, gee, do you think your client will agree to anger management classes?")
Gimme a break! If Dragovic has you for his attorney, Heaven help him!
One UCLA athlete arrested for beating up his girlfriend. A couple others suspended for smoking pot. Where is athletic director Dan Guerrero? Somebody should be stepping up to uphold the name of UCLA athletics, yet this guy seems invisible most times. What gives?
I don't do criminal law, only civil, but that was my best take on the matter.
UB, all I have to say to you is that you are obviously not a lawyer, and I don't recall you ever saying a kind thing on this blog, so that is that.
Oh, come on VB!
I think you hurt Document Review John/OnlytheFALSE's feelings...
Looks like UB (Ultimate Bruin) just took Only the Truth to Law School. Called him out on his Trojan Legal Education. Funny!
That is what happens when a "lawyer" has an opinion on everything he comes into contact with: all words, no substance.
I hope that Dragovic gets past this and learns from this event.
