OL recruit talks
It was message board fodder and I received some inquiries about College of the Canyons offensive tackle Shawn Johnson committing to UCLA. I reported yesterday my sources said that was not the case, and Johnson told me as much during a phone interview.
"UCLA is my best offer so far,'' Johnson said. "They're definitely on the top of my list, and I would go there because they're in the city of L.A. and it's close to home."
Johnson said he also has offers from Iowa State, Florida International and Idaho State.
"I have to finish some more school work first,'' Johnson said. "I have to take care of all my classes first, and that should be sometime in the spring."
I am also told Johnson is considered a long shot to finish up his work and get into UCLA.

Don't worry, that craphole UC up north will take you. You and Donovan Edwards can be buddies.

Besides that he hasn't verbally committed to UCLA, he doesn't sound sure about coming to Westwood.
"UCLA is my best offer, so far".
This has to be great for recruiting. Not would we be getting a much needed O-lineman, but an Olympic Gold Medalist! I particularly loved her on the balance beam last summer. Blew the other competition out of the water.
His video is not very impressive. Even if he came here, I think he'd ride the bench.
This sounds like another Donovan Edwards case to me. Lets hope Phillip and a few others commit.

Thank you Coach Dorrell. Good work. This is what our program has to deal with in 2008 now that you have rode off into the Sunset.
It is very telling that, even with almost guaranteed playing time at UCLA next year, not even a JC O-Lineman is sure whether he wants to commit to the Bruins.
The streak of winning seasons over the last 9 years by suc has created a lot of suc fans. Once UCLA gets back on the winning track and they are due to come out of the funk, it will create young UCLA fans. It's their time again.
There are no excellent football players AND scholars in JC. That is why they are there. They are flawed in something. Odds are, if they are in JC for academic reasons, they are really stupid, otherwise they would have gone to SC or Arizona.
Offers from Iowa State, Fla Int'l and Idaho State and us? We're now in hot competition with these schools for recruits and it still isn't a slam dunk for the recruit? We need guys who are going to buy into rebuilding a team, not guys who look at it as their best alternative.
I know she is an Olympic Gold Medalists and all... but at 4'10" we seem to really be scraping the bottom of the barrel for our offensive line....
