Tevaga back

Seems as if the blog problem is fixed, so I can finally get this out. UCLA offensive lineman Sonny Tevaga will be back at practice with UCLA today.
Tevaga and coach Rick Neuheisel met today to discuss Tevaga's status. He missed last week's game at Washington because of commitment issues, Neuheisel said.

This is a real shocker. If you are allowed back after testing positive for drug use 3 times a little committment thing shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully Sonny gets his act together, but I questioned the committment when he came to fall camp totally out of shape. I have trouble clarifying the message trying to be sent to these confused lineman.

Tevaga was not one of the guys suspended for testing positive for drugs. They were Scott Glicksberg, Micah Reed and Jess Ward.

Gee, Sonny is the ONLY one with a 'committment' problem? Yikes! Seems like CRN could have had any number of players in the same boat!

I realize that Sonny wasn't one of the drug offenders. My point was and maybe it wasn't clear, if you can be forgiven for 3 positive drug tests you can surely be excused for a little committment issue.

My problem with this is why Coach would have made it public. Could he not have stated that the kid had a personal problem and that was why he was not traveling? Now the kid has embarrassment issues with his peers.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
