Neuheisel's recruiting

| | Comments (14) |

As I talk to folks inside and outside of the program, I keep hearing something refreshing for UCLA fans. And that is coach Rick Neuheisel always hustling around in recruiting.
I can't say that was always the norm in years past, but Neuheisel seems to really enjoy the process rather than looking at it as a chore and necessary evil of running a college program.
Just thought I'd pass it along.

Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program. Great to hear of Neuheisel's energy. Let's hope he can reel in a solid 2009 recruiting class.

Thanks for passing that along Brian. These little tidbits are always interesting.

Just another reason why Dwayne Walker should stick around another year or two. He's going to get a great opportunity when CRN brings in some more offensive talent and brings UCLA more positive press and a winning record. Two years or so and we'll be back in the top 25.

if Old School was running the offense, we would have been top 25 this year!

Two questions, kind of pointed in the same direction. As good as this news sounds, Brian, do you believe it will actually translate into improved recruiting? For all his non-competitiveness, Dorrell put together a solid last class (that Neuheisel re-recruited well), and admissions policy continues to be a problem. Do you see a ceiling on how well UCLA can recruit in the post-Toledo era?

Hall of Fame coaches like Old School would make a huge difference. After all, why can't UCLA win? All they need to do is throw the ball for TD's and have RB's that run for 100+ yards a game. The QB just needs to throw long to an open player who will then promptly get to the end zone. Nothing else matters.

It's just as simple as Basketball, all you have to do is put the ball in the hoop and not let the other team score!

@ Old School Rules

wow, i did not realize it was that simple! I think i may just go quit my job and become a basketball coach. "Put the ball in the hoop"!

thank you so much!

if they had a decent line that could block anything, and if they were able to run the ball, they could have been a better team this year. But the lack of an O-line basically did them in from the beginning.

Great...but when do we see a Top Ten class??

The Nacho Nazi Author Profile Page said:

UCLA's class is currently ranked 27th or so....which is about where Dorrell's classes ranked, on average.

Didn't Wooden say something about not mistaking activity for accomplishment?

"No cheese goop for you!"

i would say we will have one in the next 3 years. Having lost 18 or 19 starters this year was bound to give us a down year. We only lose 4 senior starters next year. We go 8 - 4 or possibly 9 - 3 next year and we will have a top 10 class very quickly. top 25 would be nice this year and we are not that far from it.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
