Night Owl special

UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker will be Las Cruces on Monday to meet New Mexico State officials and tour the campus, according to sources. I'm told Walker is the leading candidate and would take the job if offered.
I have more on it in Saturday's paper.

D Walker deserves a head coaching job. He should have landed the SDSU job. I think he's going to make a great head coach and he'll be coaching a big time program inside of 3 years.

Ucla should have done whatever it takes to pay him enough in order to get an oral agreement of him staying here for 4-5 years. Walker can recruit but he was missing on some big time players because all the kids know they wouldn't be playing for Walker beyond a year or two. If D Walker could look at the kids and say he'll be there I think he'd become the best recruiter on the defensive side of the ball in the Pac 10 including Pete.

I think Walker was the man for the head coaching job here. So far Rick hasn't done much of anything. I can't believe Rick can't land some big name OL when we basically have 5 starting spots open to play under Norm Chow. Unreal.

Well, good luck to Walker. Who is our next coach? Rocky Long? Ken Norton (idon't think he's ready).

Art V - Give CRN some time. All coaches deserve a chance to prove themselves. Even Karl Dorrell got 5 years to prove himself and we all know where that went. CRN is pretty much starting from scratch with the talent level we have on our team. Most kids like to go to a program that is beginning to win games. UCLA will become that team.

If DW leaves perhaps Rocky Long will return to UCLA to take his spot.
