Two offensive linemen - Mike Philipp of Arroyo Valley (San Bernardino)- and Ryan Taylor of Tyler Junior College (Texas) are expected to be in for official visits this weekend.

The news about Philipp is great! It's good to see that he still has interest in UCLA, even after the season. Now, if we can somehow reel him in, that would help.

Football news?

I am so over football, especially after that lousy SC-ucla game. Boring. What a way to end the season. I am rooting for ucla to improve in football just to make the SC game fun again.

And speaking of fun January 11 is the SC-ucla game at Galen. That's basketball. And that should be a game. Better bring it bruins because you will be in for a fight.

Better bring it? What is this, a bad teen movie? I haven't forgotten how SC snuck one in against UCLA on the court last season, so you better believe UCLA hoops will bring it on January 11th, and then, it's on!

Eeesh! More JC recruits? Why do people go to JCs?? Either they are poor students (can't get into UCLA), or are not that talented (or they would have gotten a scholarship out of H.S.) What a disaster we have at O-line.

John Doe, so you are an expert? there are actually a lot of reasons kids get over looked and wind up at JC's, and lets face it we need some bodies who can come in and contribute right away.

I'm pretty sure Brigham Harwell was a JC transfer. He turned out to be pretty good, didn't he?

Who's Tim Craft?

Tim Craft is the Quarterback of the team. He was 3rd substitute, but because of injuries, was promoted to 1st team the entire season. Craft threw for 4 Touchdowns in the ASU game. He is gritty and made of steel. Took a beating all season long and always got back up. More than can be said for the other 2 QBs made of porcelain. I do admire Tim Craft quite fondly. Cheers.

His name is Kevin.

Whose name is Kevin? Not sure what you are referring to. Cheers.

Harwell never attended a JC. He was a BIG TIME recruit out of Los Altos HS. And Some kids go to JC's for many reasons. They might have played for small unexposed schools or their coaches did not help them get recruited, grade issues, some develop later and some are just overlooked

You're right - I was thinking of Justin Hickman.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
