Stockton a no-show

Good for UCLA to tell him no thanks. UCLA shouldn't be paying for a recruit to visit ND on their way to a warm winter time vacation. I've got a couple choice words in my mind that I won't share.

Not a problem. I understand. I just thought you might want to get your facts straight instead of spreading rumors. Stockton has shot it down many times and it's not really fair to him that stuff like this keeps coming up when it is not true. But other than that I don't have a problem with UCLA, we have a common enemy ;-).

#1) If Dohn says that he was going to visit...then that is a FACT!

#2) If Dohn says that the reason he didn't visit is because of the conditions Stockton and his father put on UCLA with respect to travel (Who requests a layover in Chicago in December???) then that is a FACT!!!

#3) Please refrain from personal attacks on Mr. Dohn. He doesn't tolerate that type of behavior on his blog!

So you're saying that UCLA paid for Stockton to take a return flight from Chicago back to New Jersey too? If UCLA catered to this, then they are violating NCAA rules. There is no way that a school can be allowed to let recruits take advantage of "layovers" for other purposes on official visits. If this happened the school is responsible first and foremost for allowing the recruit to do something shady just to come across as accommodating and friendly. It sounds kind of shady to me. Surely UCLA would worry that it would be a gray area to allow for additional benefits made possible by the school during an official visit. Also UCLA would have to be very naive to not obtain an official reason that he had to stop in Chicago to protect themselves. By not asking makes it seem like they were complicit in the whole thing.

Obviously Tyler made the trip to South Bend on his own dime any way. Maybe it was his way of getting UCLA to go away and maybe the gesture was made in humor. Notre Dame's unofficial rule is that if you're committed to us and looking at other programs then your schollie will be pulled AND the guy just went to the Notre Dame Christmas banquet and the guy has been totally open in his actions on trying to get other players to come to ND. Something tells me he's not wavering on his commitment. Someone connected to UCLA must be pretty naive. Either that or they can't read people very well.

Sounds like UCLA cancelled the visit. Nothing in there led me to believe it was ever taken.

I'm sure the recruit we're discussing told the UCLA staff that he's not interested in attending their university. They still kept begging and pleading anyway. I'm sure he finally said, "OK, I'll go." Though knowing he was never going to visit, but said it to get the UCLA staff off his back. Then I'm sure he later said something like this, "during my visit, I'd like to stop off in Chicago for a day or so and visit some close friends." Which I'm sure this particular recruit knows isn't allow, and knew that UCLA wouldn't go for it considering they know the ND banquet was that night. I guess this recruit put this whole UCLA recruiting thing to bed, don't you think?

We dont need players like this anyway,its enough talent in L.A. to where we dont have to go way to the east coast and deal with crap like this.

ND pulling the scholie of a kid who visits another school...pretty hilarious. Might be something if they were an elite program which they are in name only. How many top 10 recruiting classes does ND need to field a decent team?

2006: 5th w/6 top 100 players.
2007: 11th w/5 top 100 players.
2008: 2nd w/7 top 100 players.

Stockton should see if Weis has the guts to pull the scholie. We already know he has the gut.

ND avoids the practice of recruits making visits after verbal-ing.
They ask them to take their time and be sure of their decision, but once they commit that's it.
Other schools that allow this see more that 50% of recruits that go on trips after their verbal not keeping their commitment.
Doesn't matter if your an elite school or not, it's just good practice.
Besides, why would a recruit who commits want to go on another school visit?

T. Stockton was never visiting UCLA.

He's a December graduate. He's playing in the Army Bowl on Jan. 3. And then he's reporting to ND's campus for the spring semester.

Did anyone really believe he would be visiting UCLA (of all places) to second guess his decision when he starts college in a month?

The only time he'll be traveling to LA is in 2010 to play your cross-town rival.

The ND statement is if you are looking we are looking. It doesn't mean they pull the schollie, it means they might if they find someone better. AT this point in the ND program it is a hollow gesture that gives the subway fans something to crow about.

Either Brian made stuff up himself or didn't check his sources when this crud got passed his way. Stockton had his trip to ND booked weeks before the original UCLA rumor came out of someone's rectum.

UCLA plays the best football of any program in the land - During the Offseason. Just ask the BRO Posters, The Coaches are the Dream Team, they are one player away from beating SC and next year will be playing for a major bowl.

They remind me of ND Fans after Weis almost beat SC a while back. The only difference is that the ND Admins probably care about winning.
