Taylor's timetable

| | Comments (15) |

While UCLA received its fourth commitment from a junior college player over the weekend in Ryan Taylor, an offensive lineman from Tyler (Texas) Junior College, it may be the most significant.
Taylor is expected to compete at either center or guard, and is planning on coming to UCLA in time for the spring quarter and spring practice.
Taylor has two years to play two seasons.
UCLA' has commitments from three other JUCO players, but sources said the program is viewing those players are long-shots to attend UCLA since each has substantial work to complete before they would be admitted.

Brandon Warner is the guy I want the most out of the three "longshots". Are we done offering JC kids now?

God forbid our administration allow a few special admits when our football program is in desperate need of some linemen.

Hey anonymous, why don't you take a slow walk across the 405 freeway? Stop to tie your shoe in the fast lane.

You don't mess with the Dohn!

I assume that your are referring to Mr. Dohn when you say "Mr. Personality"??? Was that some sort of dig you were trying to make?

Brian,

I read on the ESPN recruiting blog that UCLA is in the top two for Charles Siddoway of Oregon (Bama is the other), but the kid says he hasn't heard from the coaches in 3 weeks. Is he a longshot because of grades?

VB, you're way off base here. The administration has no say with JC transfers. It's the NCAA requires that they obtain their AA degree before being admitted. All of them have a lot of work to do to get their degree.

I will leave you now Dohn Corleone - may the Bruin football recruiting class this year be a masculine one and not a gutty little Bruin one...

And keep up the good work...Great blog!

anonymous 528 I think you are wrong, it is UCLA that requires them to have the AA degree. Other schools in many cases do not require the same amount of courses and then there are the GPA issues as well. As usual UCLA makes it harder on itself.

nope. siddoway isnt that good. Oregon stopped recruiting him(that was an excuse they told Siddoway).

Anon 611. Interesting comments. Siddoway is ranked rather high per Scout, but the ESPN eval of him is more inline with your post. What is more interesting from the evaluation is that he is ranked relatively lower than commit Roby Toma who some have felt was a reach. If you believe ESPN over Scout, it would be a bigger reach to go after Siddoway at this point. So much for star rankings.

ESPN has Micheal Phillip ranked real low too. They are hugely biased towords east coast recruits. They only recognize the big ones like Barkley, Teo, and Kennard. I'm so tired of ESPN. Always Yankees-Red Sox, Duke-North Carolina, etc. Last year the Pac-10 was the best college B-Ball conference and no one even noticed. Thats why I have decided to boycott ESPN and only rely on the Daily News for my sports :)

Speaking of Scout - they are reporting that Hasiak's is now a "soft verbal" for the Bruins with SC, Ore St and Washington in the mix for his LOI. Too bad...

So, if your news isn't "sugar coated" you're not interested? Stand up and take it like a man...

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
