Walker and NMSU
Now that San Diego State is out of the mix, I'm hearing UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker is contemplating whether to pursue the New Mexico State job.

Don't take it Dwayne. It's a losing situation you can not turn around! You are better off staying at UCLA and see what opens up next year. Maybe Notre Dame will open up for you.
I think he should wait until next week, after the Vegas bowl, and go for the Arizona job when it opens up.
pffffff... Dude, do you really think after making mistakes on hiring Ty Willingham and Charlie Weis that Notre Dame is going to hire a defensive coordinator from a middle-tier Pac10 school as their next head coach??
Something tells me that CDW will be the DC at UCLA next year. At the end of next season, he will get a HC opportunity. I just don't see it in the mix this year. It could happen, but I would tend to doubt it.
He might take the $$$ LSU is throwing at him.
Why would he pack up and move to LSJU for a DC position? He wants to be a head coach, and will become one eventually if he stays at UCLA.
I swear. Some of you Bruins are not very bright.
As of right now, I don't see Walker going to LSU for a number of reasons, which I've been asked to keep quiet. But I will say LSU has not reached out to Walker, according to a few sources.
Reasons:
1) Walker hates the Bayou.
2) Walker loves California.
3) Walker has recruiting ties in California.
4) Walker is settled into and established in his job here at UCLA
5) The SEC sucks.
6)VB said so.
7) CDW will get a better HC job if he stays at UCLA for 1 or 2 more years. With his returning defense -- and (hopefully) a better offense, CDW will have a better show case and his stock will rise.
8) One more year and his defense will probably stick it to USC next December. I just have a feeling that the worm is about to turn.
9) UCLA Dance Team wins hands down over LSU's.
10) The UBTA may invite him to a tailgate or two if he can slip away from the team. How can he pass that up?
He should pass on that, as that job will take him farther from, not closer to, a HC opportunity at a decent program. If he doesn't turn that crappy program around, he's basically done as a HC.
But if he can continue to be a good DC at a rising UCLA, he will be in position to get some decent jobs that may soon become available, which IMO include UA, WSU, and Stanford.
While there were some positives to be gleaned from the SDSU gig, there are few to be found at New Mexico State. Trying to construct a competitive program in Las Cruces, New Mexico as a lower tier WAC school is as tough a job as any.
Brian, have you heard Walker's name brought up in discussions regarding NFL DC jobs opening up in Jacksonville and Tampa? Thanks as always for the info.
