BRIGHAM HARWELL AND TERRENCE AUSTIN
SELECTED UCLA FOOTBALL’S MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS

Defensive tackle Brigham Harwell and wide receiver Terrence Austin were selected winners of UCLA’s Henry R. “Red” Sanders Award for Most Valuable Player at the Annual UCLA Football Awards Banquet, held Wednesday evening at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Harwell, a season team captain, returned from a knee injury to start all 12 games in 2008. He earned second-team All-Pac-10 honors while making 53 tackles to rank sixth on the squad. He was third on the squad with 6.0 tackles for loss and concluded his Bruin career with 26.5 tackles behind the line.

Austin led the Bruins with 53 receptions, the most by a Bruin wide receiver since Craig Bragg made 73 catches in 2003. In addition, he set UCLA season records for all-purpose yards (1,878), kickoff return yards (1,109) and kickoff returns (46). He ranked 16th in the NCAA in all-purpose yardage.

I love the fact that UCLA haters love to comment on Brian’s Blog and make it the most viewed sports blog on this site (well at least better than SC’s).

You check out Wolf’s blog? No one comments on anything, barely 2 or 3….

Thank you guys for being so envious of UCLA….I know you guys couldn’t get in…so you guys either had to settle with USC or just went to a crappier school….or none.

    Go Bruins!!

    Fellow Bruins

    Don’t be Haters.

This blog is like life, just come along for the ride. Later tonight we are going to pop both Heathers and Fresh Horses into the Betamax and really hang low.

Next year it will be Price and Carter (or Moore) on Defense. Franklin and Baca will take the honors on Offense.

There were awards to give out?

  • La Gorda

The “Glass Foot” trophy was awared to QB Ben Olson.

  • La Gorda

The “Vapor Trails” trophy was awarded to RB Chris Markey for fastest running back in the Pac-10.

  • La Gorda

The “Most Heart” award should be awarded to QB Tim Craft. He was run over by freight trains every Saturday, threw 10,000 interceptions and got YELLED at by Coach N on the sidlines, and always got back up each time. To top it off, he never, ever, ever said one negative word about Cocah N or the horrible Offensive Line.

The “Cheech & Chong Pharmacia Excellence” Award should have gone to Glicksberg and Reed.

Whilst it is very noble for Coach Neuheisel to give out participation trophies to last year’s football team, it may not be the best time to do it. It is very telling to the College Football world that whilst Coach Nuehisel is handing out “awards” and eating steak and potoatoes at a banquet, Coach Pete Carroll is out on the recruiting trail in Alabama and Florida trying to bring in prized recruits.

I also read on the Internets that Coach Neuheisal was out with his friends enjoying the basketball game at Pauley Pavillion the other night instead of recruiting. No wonder UCLA has a GOOSE EGG for OL recruits.
