Answers, Part XII

Greetings from Seattle. It’s nice to see the sun again after missing it for a few days. Also nice to see people again, after seeing very few in the lovely cities of Pullman, Wash., and Moscow, Idaho.
Before I post the 12th set of answers, since I am in Seattle I thought it would be the perfect time to wonder if anyone has a Captain Phil update. It is King Crab season, after all.
Now, here is the 12th set:

Do you think the UCLA athletic program is properly equipped to deal with all the fans that are constantly jumping on and off the Dragovic and Roll bandwagons? To the keep extra bandwagons and drivers in stock incase Drago or Roll hit some big threes.
It does amaze me how when a guy has a good game folks are willing to anoint him a stud, but when he misses a few shots there is an outcry to put him on the bench.

What is happening with Warner’s commitment? Is he having a hard time getting into school?
He needs to take care of things academically, and he did not perform as well as expected in the fall.

Do you think that Howland should give more minutes to the freshman not named Jrue Holiday? It seems in the past that he was more willing to give the freshman floor time.
I think they need to play more so they have experience for late in the season and in the NCAA Tournament.

i know u look down on people using stars, but they have at least some value, ask usc football if they think so. when are the 5 star high profile recruits for football coming, or is it same ol 2-4 stars forever? can CRN and chow do it?
I don’t know the answer to that. It is much too early to determine it. When a new staff takes over a rebuilding job and the program is getting average, at best, talent, it usually takes time for them to build to the elite talent. Stud players want to go to stud programs, and UCLA is coming off a 4-8 season.

How would you grade the results of Bruin recruiting efforts towards putting together a solid Offensive Line?
Incomplete. Until I know how many are going to sign, and how many of the JUCOs are going to make it, I cannot give a grade.

As of today, who do you see comprising the starting O-line next season?
I don’t know. I’m guessing RT Sean Sheller, RG Ryan Taylor, C Kai Maiava, LG Darius Savage and LT Jeff Baca. But I have no idea if Taylor is any good, or what other JUCOs will be coming in.

You’ve heard from the Bruins fans what we thought about the loss to ASU. What do you think? Who should bear the brunt for the meltdown and what would you have done differently?
I think the coaching staff and the players should share the blame. The coaches know you have to attack the zone and not get complacent, and the team is veteran enough to know how to do it. I think it was a necessary evolution for the team this season. They needed to be reminded everything is not easy, and their focus must be high against solid teams.

Before the basketball game starts and the players are all in a circle, I’ve seen Roll and Anderson in the middle and some kind of chanting/rapping going on. What are they saying?
Got me. I’m sure it is some sort of team thing that gets them excited to play.

Is there a three sentence explanation for why UCLA isn’t doing as well as it hoped recruiting offensive lineman?
I think I can do it in less than three sentences: UCLA is not known for producing NFL offensive lineman and the Bruins were 4-8 last season.

What would be better for UCLA? Hasiak + Phillip or the four commits from a few weeks ago?
I think Hasiak and Philipp because of UCLA’s need for offensive linemen.
