Answers, Part XIV
Here is the 14th set of answers:
Do you think Howland would ever put up with a kid who also played on the Bruins football team? On the flip side, do you think such a kid would ever play much given how much Howland values practice and how much practice he would miss due to football?
He almost put up with it his second season, when Marcus Everett was going to join the basketball team until former coach Karl Dorrell persuaded him to remain with football during the offseason. And if the player is good enough, yes, I think Howland would tolerate it.
Does the Rey Maluga / Erin Andrews clip pretty much sum up what kind of program Carroll runs and what kind of men (boys?) he recruits?
No. I am not going to group 100 kids and make a blanket statement because of one player's actions. Because a few UCLA players were suspended for failing a drug test last season, does that sum up the type of program Karl Dorrell ran, or Rick Neuheisel is running?
What is one international sports event and one domestic sports event that you've never covered but would really like to?
International, I'd love to cover a World Cup. As far as domestic, I can't really think of one. I've covered most of the big things.
What is the best individual performance you've ever covered? (If it's Reggie Miller against NY Knicks in the playoffs, what is #2?)
I covered a high school ice hockey in New Jersey where a kid had eight or nine goals. I still remember it. The kid was Mats Carsberg (I think the spelling is right) and he wound up playing minor league hockey.
Do the basketball players know beforehand what NBA scouts are attending a certain game?
Nope. I don't know if they are made aware of it afterward, either.
Will Dragovic get a shot at the open SF position next year, or is he thought of strictly as a PF now?
I think he will get some minutes there if UCLA's frontcourt freshmen prove to be reliable. I think he is better off at the wing, but personnel this year make it so he has to play power forward.
In your sports journalism career, have you ever covered a loss for which you knew the aftermath would be so bad that you didn't even want to go to the lockerroom afterwards?
No. I covered losses where I knew the locker room would be brutal, but I was never intimidated to go in the locker room. However, I have covered games where I knew it would be tough to find anything interesting coming out of the locker room after a loss.
Howland said he would discipline Dragovic internally following the arrest. Do you know what that discipline--besides the 1-game suspension--turned out to be?
I think the one-game suspension was the biggest thing. There was some talking to, but I don't know if Dragovic had to do any extra conditioning.
During the Oregon game chat, when I quipped that Neuheisel takes offensive recruits to the restaurant Mr. Chow, how come nobody commented or wrote "lol?" Do you think they didn't get it? Do you get it? Don't you think it's hilariously clever?
I've never heard of the restaurant, but I figured it was something like that. It was clever, I'll give you that, but I'm sure it went over almost everyone's head.
Paper or plastic?
Plastic, but I should chose paper to be more eco-friendly.

I say you should give a hoot, POLUTE! People wanna go green? I say, "see what brown can do for you."
Sure, I recycle my cans and bottles, but only because it is the only cash my wife lets me gamble with when we go to Vegas.
The correct answer is your own cloth bag
I bought some of those cloth grocery bags from Target... I used them to wipe the grease off my garage floor.
I was there. I got it, but didn't think it was really that funny.
What do you want...a cookie everytime you think of something somewhat clever?
Mr Chow is one of the most famous restaurants in LA and the world for that matter. It is the kind of place, like Spago, for example, where you read in People that hot couple so and so were spotted a Mr Chow enjoying Sechuan dumpling. It's also known for hosting multiple celebs in one night, and gets especially juicy if two feuding celebs show up at the same time. What's more, it's in Beverly Hills--UCLA's backyard--and seems like the posh, swank place Neuhesial would like. Come to think of it, though, if Norm Chow is tagging along, he strikes me as someone who would prefer Norm's, the greasy spoon chain restaurant with $5.99 steak deals.
And Brian, I can't believe you've been in LA for 10 years and didn't know Mr. Chow. First, you didn't know that Chick Hearn was known as the "Goldren Throat," and now this? We have to question your credibility. . .
I use hemp bags exclusively. Eco-friendly, trendy and old school
Contrary to popular belief, paper and plastic bags have about the same ecological impact. There are people on both sides of the debate for which bag is better environmentally, but the clear winner is reusable bags.
Marcedes Lewis was on Howland's team during his freshman year. He didn't play a lot but he was on the team. Didn't he play a little on the football team?
I guess I was off by a year. Lewis was there a year before Howland.
