Neuheisel on the staff

| | Comments (23) |

UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel and new defensive coordinator Chuck Bullough were just on a conference call, and here are the highlights:

--"It's two great moves,'' Neuheisel said. "I think they're committed to the idea the UCLA defense is going to be something special."
--Neuheisel said he liked the relationship Bullough had with the players, his work ethic and desire to be a great coach.
--Neuheisel said there is a little concern with Carnell Lake being a first-time coach, but he spoke with former coach Terry Donahue about it and feels like it was the right move.
--Bullough said his style will not differ much from the 4-3 defense DeWayne Walker ran the last three seasons.
--Neuheisel said he was going to wait until after Feb. 4 signing day to make the announcement, but negative recruiting from other schools forced him to do it now. He said other schools were telling recruits UCLA was going to change defensive systems (like go to a 3-4), and some kids were getting jittery.

Amateur Hour.

Brian will you now tell us who the "Mind Blowing" Candidate was and possibly why it didn't happen?

Looking to Terry Donahue for support AAAAAAAAAAHHHHH Could it get any worse (Wait don't answer that)

So CRN was forced to announce because SC was telling Te'o lies about UCLA's defense. Once again PC shows his class

Simmer down billy boy, Chuck deserves a chance.

brian, do you know how the players feel about walker leaving and bullough as the DC?

Brian,

Was USC telling recruits that Ken Norton, Jr. was going to be the Bruins Defensive Coordinator?

BruinChick said:

"other schools" meaning USC. They are such jerks.

EXbruins Author Profile Page said:

I hate on sc and stinky pete as much, if not more, than anyone on here but we have no idea what schools were saying this. Every school we were going head to head against was probably using the fact that we didn't have a DC named as a tactic against us.

I like Chuck and the kids respect him as a coach a lot. I have a probably with Rick N waiting months to release this bullsheeet news. If he's the guy, hire the guy. Rick sure is stupid for somebody that is supposed to be smart.

Rick, you are dumb bro. Hire him or don't. Why spend 2 months f'ing around? Stupid azz.

Rick said:

Jon,

UCLA isn't USC's top competition for T'eo. I'm pretty sure they don't even get mentioned.

GBRACKO Author Profile Page said:

Brian, any thought on why Rick wanted to wait until after Feb 4th to announch Bullough and Lake? What's the upside in waiting until after signing day? Wouldn't kids want to know ASAP and if he knows, why not tell them? The only possibility I can think of is that he thought the recruits might be disappointed with this news and so he was holding out until after they were already committed...

EXbruins Author Profile Page said:

hello??anyone there??? RN was looking into the NFL for possible candidates for the position.

so ArtV, who is dumb? figure it out buddy. there is a reason he took so long to make an announcement, HE WANTED TO FIND THE BEST POSSIBLE CANDIDATE, picking a d-cord is not something you should rush

oh and RICK at 6:24...I'm pretty sure you need to get your facts straight:
1. Its Te'o not T'eo
2. Manti has made it clear UCLA is right there with ND and SC for his services
3. I'm glad you enjoy our blog, thanks for reading, head back to south central now

I don't agree. Why wait to hire a guy you know is a very good coach? Ucla isn't going to hire a great coach for $350K a year. Norton makes more than that as a freaking position coach and Norton never coached prior to SC. Nobody in America has even offered Norton a job he sucks so hard yet he makes more than our DC.

The mistake was not coming out of pocket to retain Walker. Walker would have stayed for $450K. I talked to him before he left. I took him to Chili's for lunch two weeks before he left. We're good friends.

EXbruins Author Profile Page said:

are you 100% sure on that because it seemed as though it wasn't about the money and that he just wanted to be a head coach somewhere?

LAWYER JOHN said:

I begrudgingly approve of Coach Chucky Bullough as the new DC. As long as COACH TERRY DONAHUE gave his approval, that is fine for me. Donahue is a coaching legend who really knows the ins and outs of the gridiron.

Actually Lawyer John, i met Bullough in person and he is a great guy and him and the d-line coach along with Walker helped make the defense what it was. Bullough has NFL experience, coached Brian Urlacher with the Bears and knows is stuff. The addition of Lake at Ucla is huge! Our secodary is going to be even better under him. Great choices by Neuheisel.Go BGruins!

Hey, Lawyer John:

The article stated that Neuheisel talked to Donahue about Lake, not Bullough. For a lawyer you're not very observant. But that shouldn't be news, you were educated at South Central where the degrees come if you pay, not if you learn.

I like the continuity. I think one of the biggest problems with Karl Dorrell as head coach was that every year there was a major turnover in the coaching ranks. New styles, new terminology, new direction, starting over in recruiting - it seemed like all the good assistants left after a year or two to get a promotion and/or more money and all the bad ones were fired after a year or two. I'm hoping that Chow doesn't retire too soon and we can get a good run of years under these coaches and then pass the torch to some of the assistants that are here now.

hey anonymous, think twice before you bash "South Central" law degrees, have All of you forgotten (selectively) that your coach, slick rick CRN graduated and received his law degree from USC, not UCLA? Even he knew who had the better law school program and that it would mean more in the real world (everything not on the west side, that is...)go back to your pinkberries my preties...)

Burbank Bruin Author Profile Page said:

Well, I'm sure Coach is a much better coach than he is a lawyer.

Pinkberries? Ah, the irony.. probably lost on this $Cumster though.

anonymous said:

burbank bRUIN, pinkberries is a yougurt shop, maybe they have not matriculated out to the fancy enclave where you live in the valley, in westwood you have your pinkberries, in the city we have a football team...yeah i know, University of South Central, but we here in the city are proud to be right in the heart of the greatest city in these United States, and we work hard every day to make our community better...you better hope he is a better coach than a lawyer, all that screaming on the sideline at your qb last year sure looked impressive. what's the irony burbank bRUIN, that in this part of the city we must be black???
