Non-commital Norton
After the game, Ken Norton was asked what he would do if Rick Neuheisel called him to talk about the UCLA defensive coordinator opening.
``The season's not over,'' Norton said.
The clock at the Rose Bowl read 00:00, so yes, it was over.
``There's a party to go to,'' Norton said.

About Inside UCLA
This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.About this Entry

Forget Norton, that guy is trash. UCLA supporters should want anybody but this guy after all of the stupid things that he's said.
And who asked him that brilliant question? Was that you Jill? Just let it go or to put it another way, he is dead to us BRUIN FANS!
I'd rather have Ed Norton, the Plumber, running our defense than Ken Norton.
Maybe we should call Junior Seau. . .
I think Norton will be our next D coordinator. He and Neu will kiss and make up.
I don't know why you people are so bitter about a few comments made in the papers. It's one thing to hate SC, it's another to simply ignore how good that defense (and the rest of the team for that matter) is. Norton's a Bruin at heart - get him in. No, he's not proven as a D coordinator, but I'm willing to bet he can't produce defenses any worse than we had before Walker.
I could care less about his comments; however, I feel like he should not be in consideration for the job because he is not qualified to be it
And maybe Ben Howland should get on the blowtorch to Henry Bibby about being one of his assistants...
If Norton gets hired, I will lose a lot of respect for Neuheisel and the UCLA athletic department. I would definitely not buy season tickets as I had planned.
BLur
USC was loaded with 5 stars at every position on D before Norton got there. Any yahooo can coach 11 guys that are NFL legit prospects to wins against the competition they play against.
We want a coach that can play serious defense with average talent even though we should start getting some talent in here again now that Rick is running the show. Too bad Martinez is going to USC. Rick needs to start landing some bigtime OL. Killing me that he keeps missing on the bigtime OL.
Trust me, Norton is a fool. Norton is the only position coach that nobody will hire anywhere in the country. He's lazy and stupid. SC only hired Norton because nobody - NOBODY else would hire him. Pete did it to help him recruit against us. Good for him. It hurts there team. SC is an NFL team. They say USC has approx. 45 NFL prospects on the current team and many of those are projected First rounders. Not hard to coach when you have the biggest, fastest and strongest guys at every position.
F Norton is the Point.

This was a remarkable day in SC-ucla relations over the Norton-Neuheisel flap. Makes me better understand Israeli-Palestinian relations i.e. there are no relations, each treats the other as if they are animals, and this hatred will continue for another 100 years or until the A-bombs hit which most experts say is imminent in the next 10-years.
That said, SC-ucla is not as serious, but it still is a curious Los Angeles phenomenen. Basically, it is a male thing, and basically all these males are not very different one from another: you know, make a living, fight the traffic, enjoy a friend or two, read a book or two per year, watch a lot of t.v., drink, and then eventually die and be forgotten.
LAWYER JOHN
Art V you are the sheeet! A true sc hater. I love it!
Ease up on CRN.
L john if you cant post fresh stuff get out of here.
That's the 3rd time I've read the exact same thing from you.
USC has won 24 Rose Bowls. ucla has won 5, one less than Stanford. Rivalry? In your Westwood dreams. But hey, it's hoops season, so hope is on the way.
Congratulations to the PAC-10 on their very impressive 5-0 bowl record; it's amazing what the conference can do when UGLA is at home where they belong. Once again...we own the Rose Bowl; FIGHT ON!
Jay Bee and Lapeno:
Not sure about you but I actually really enjoyed watching all Pac 10 teams winning their games and enjoyed SC beating the hell out of another weak, over hyped team again.
Only thing I really get pissed off about is SC's poor coaching is F'ing us all out of a great game. Who wouldn't want to see FL vs. SC? I would have settled for SC vs. OK or even SC vs. Bama I think would be solid. I think Bama wins that. I would take the 10 points in that one for sure. Saban is the better coach and Bama plays D and runs the ball up the gutt which SC has trouble with.
Every year though USC gets biitch slapped by a 41 point underdog or 30 point dog and they end up backing into the Rose Bowl. When you think about it, USC not only gets punked by an inferior team each year but USC gets beat EVERY year by the Pac 10's best team.
Last year it was USC and Oregon. They play and Oregon bends them over on national TV but Dixon gets hurt and allows SC to back into the Rose Bowl. This year the two best Pac 10 teams were USC and Oregon St. OSU slaps USC around and then Rodgers gets hurt. This allows USC to back into the Rose Bowl again.
I wish SC would play to their potential so we could see some great games. My other hope is UCLA gets back to where we should be. UCLA is ONLY 1 game under .500 vs. USC since we've had a home field advantage, the Rose Bowl. I think that started in about '82.
The same guy is having a conversation with himself under two different aliases. Unbelievable. Seek some psychiatric help, dude.
LAWYER JOHN is not Lawyer John. He is like the VB imitators.
And now the guy is copying material word for word. Fascinating character.
He was more interesting when he was spoofing lawyers, of which he clearly is not one.

Believe it or not fan sentiment does mean something in these choices and as a result Norton doesn't have a chance in Hell...Maybe he can get on dancing with the stars to stroke his toejam ego...
Notron is a great recruiter and that's half the battle in college football.
That guy is a stupid low-life. I hate that guy. You better bet that he is gonna get an earful of VB if he does come to UCLA. You think I'm bad now? Just wait.
All the anti-Norton sentiment sounds a lot like the anti-Neuheisal sentiment before the season. That said, I agree with all of the criticism of Norton and believe he personally severed all ties with the school ala Henry Bibby. Don't say the things you said and expect to be welcomed ever with open arms. Also, I think he is the last person on that staff that should take any credit for that defense. His recruiting prowess is also largely overstated ... the ties were in place before he got there and there would be no drop off if he's gone. Carroll runs that whole operation both on/off the field.
VB, I'm sure Neuheisel reads your comments on this blog and makes his hires accordingly.
Art, you may be right about Norton being an idiot, I don't know. But if he can recruit good players, get him in here. If anyone can coach NFL prospects, then let's hire someone who can bring in NFL prospects. I don't want to go back to the "gutty little bruins."
