Paying the DC
Some folks are wondering what UCLA is going to pay the new defensive coordinator, and I'm hearing it will depend on who gets hired.
DeWayne Walker made $375,000 last season, and I was told there were early talks about him getting a raise before he opted to take the New Mexico State job.
Also, Montana coach Bobby Hauck said he is yet to be contacted about the position, but money doesn't appear to be an issue if he was the guy. I'm hearing his base at Montana is around $120,000, and incentives pushes the deal near $200,000.
Is Dohn Corleone the blogfather getting paid by UCLA directly? Or is this how Howland got DC to avoid the riches of the NBA and stay for his senior year? Are you trying to just be discreet? Did you see the amount Washington is paying Nick Holt? He's reportedly receiving 2.1 million over three years. That's nearly double what UCLA was paying Walker, and surely more than we're going to offer the new DC. Unless we get a little more with it, we're going to lose good assistants and coordinators to other programs.
UCLA=cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, and so on. We all know that the almighty dollar is not spent on the FB program so what else is new. We wouldn't have gotten NC except the Titans are still paying him so we got lucky.
