UCLA wins, takes over second

Darren Collison scored 22 points to lead No. 22 UCLA past California 72-68 Saturday at Haas Pavilion, a win which moved the Bruins into sole possession of second place in the Pacific-10.

    Well, it wasn’t pretty, but it was a win and I’ll take it. Bruins seemed to finally wake up in the second half and play some pretty decent D. Collison did what he needed to do: get the team fired up and create shots. Shipp was pretty solid as well, and Aboya this year is alway good. I love that guy. Drago is still slow and sloppy on D (but I’m willing to give him a bit of a pass given he was sick and hit some nice 3s). Holiday…I don’t know. I see signs of a really good player in this kid, but his Defense is just not good. I liked that he took a few more shots, but he still seems hesitant. And Gordon…he didn’t contribute much this game, but dude plays with everything he’s got.

    Calgirl was on the chat tonite and was honest enough, at the end, to give the bruins props for winning. She did miss bruinchick though.

    Silly Teddies!!! The only smart bruin is Bruin Chick. How could I be on your dumb chat when I was at that stupid game and then went down to the Lair??? It was probably one of those vb people hehehe!!! So you won… big deal, you also-rans didn’t prove anything!!! Everybody on Telegraph was cool, all that happened is we had a bad night shooting and YOU bribed the refs just like the trOJies did, so what??? We still have the best coach and we’re going to win the Pac10 tournament; and next season we’re going to be a lot better than you. Berkeley is cool, Westwood is not. I’M HAPPY :) :) :)

    Towards the end, our fans were even beginning to drown you losers out in your own house, soon to be re-named Pauley Pavillion–North.

    As for next year, dream on…we have better talent coming in and a better coach to lead them. How ashamed you must be to have to turn to a Stanford coach as your savior! Desperate is more like it.

    To be fair to Monty, he is an excellent coach and has Cal playing about at the peak of their ability considering the talent he has to work with. If you don’t think so, you must really think highly of Harper Kamp and Jorge Gutierrez.

    The difference in this game was Darren and UCLA was fortunate or good enough to beat that had one prior home loss until yesterday.

    Would I like to be in first place? Obviously. I am happy with a competitive team that doesn’t have 40 point losses to Stanford or Arizona like we had with the Lavin era. Also, usc is a the bottom of the pile and in a downward spiral with Floyd at the helm.

    Not to underestimate Monty, but I think people are forgetting that while he was at furd, he didn’t really have to recruit very hard. Most of the kids he ended up with wanted to go to furd anyways. I don’t think it mattered to them what coach they played for as long as it was at furd. Therefore, since players generally require a LOT more convincing to play at kal than to play at furd, I don’t think he will be able to recruit the same caliber of player he recruited at furd. That being said, I can’t see him climbing up the ranks of the pac 10 too much higher than he already is at, because there will be a lower cap to the level of talent he will be able to bring to kal.
