Toma's time

| | Comments (41) |

One thing I'm hearing about Punahou (Honolulu) receiver Roby Toma that if a decision is not made shortly, UCLA told him the scholarship offer will be pulled. Toma was supposed to sign with UCLA, but opted not to Wednesday.
He is also looking at Notre Dame and Hawaii.

would love to have you be a bruin kid, but we arent gonna wait 2 months for you to decide. good luck though!

BruinChick Author Profile Page said:

Brian, does this mean they have someone else on the radar to offer the scholarship to?

kiyo8 Author Profile Page said:

dohn does that mean we can add a recruit maybe a guy thats suppose to goto usc
??

haha, you mean hardball. thats how we roll

BruinJigs Author Profile Page said:

He needs to decide where he wants to play ball soon. I like the move on the part of the coaches.

BruinChick Author Profile Page said:

I think this is a hint that we don't want him anymore.

Any other SUC recruit who hasn't signed his LOI yet that we can steal?

Go get em, coaches!

Hebron Fangupo that JC kid I think hasn't sent in his letter yet.

Dohn, did you see Scott Wolf's post on Toma? Wolf implies that Te'o and Toma was a package deal (ala Derozan and Lil Romeo). Here is the link to the Newspaper article out of Hawai'i.

Panchito.

osezno Author Profile Page said:

Roby "Lil' Romeo" Toma was only offered because Neuheisel was using him as leverage to get his best friend Te'o.

Now that Te'o is in South Bend, Neu has no use for him and is looking for a way to burn him so he doesn't waste a scholarship.

Hopefully he won't damage the kid's reputation too much when he dumps him.

I couldn't be in the chat today. Can someone tell me what position(s) we still have a gaping hole in to be filled?

Sam Gilbert Author Profile Page said:

BruinChick,

Isn't this where you're supposed to praise Neuheisel for being "Sneaky Rick?"

BruinChick Author Profile Page said:

Hehehe. =)

Another thoughtful kid. Unlike the other recruits, he has enough mathematical sense to know that 4-8 is the sign of a crappy program.

Sam Gilbert Author Profile Page said:

Alright BC,
As long as we're acknowledging the hypocrisy, I can respect it.

Cade McNown's Social Worker Author Profile Page said:

Poor Dohn. He's spent the last six years writing in-depth about a beggarly team that celebrates over its rival's table scraps. Must be as exciting as watching paint dry...or watching Panchito eating paint.

BruinChick Author Profile Page said:

Riiiight. UCLA has been awful to write about. Especially the 3 straight Final Four appearances.

so west Coast Author Profile Page said:

to the sad people above: get a job. or a life. whichever one comes easier to you

How about Cowgirl?

BruinChick Author Profile Page said:

Ew, you're gross.

scholarship limits said:

If only they could think of a way to dump Dalton Hillard, the other piece of the Te'o package.

Anon said:

Ok, forget cowgirl, then. Let's go with defensive tackle. We haven't signed any high school DTs for two years now, and the one guy we signed two years ago didn't redshirt and could leave for the NFL after his junior year.

BruinChick Author Profile Page said:

Isn't B. Warner a DT?

Inquiring Minds said:

Now did Norm Chow stop to talk to Toma while visiting his best friend/classmate Te'o or does he only talk to the players UCLA actually wants?

Anon said:

But he is a JUCO, with only two years to play 2. So, assuming warner even qualifies, if price leaves after his junior year, we have only warner left at that position, and he only has 1 year left at that point. I'm sure they will move somebody into that position, but nobody on the roster jumps out. Hopefully, Holmes is packing on the pounds.

Anyway, if you had to pick a position of dire need now, that's the one. I see no other positions that have not be thoroughly recruited in the last 2 years (with the possible exception of long snapper :)).

EXbruins Author Profile Page said:

there were not many good d-tackles out there so we took some guys who can make the transition to d-tackle, i also bet that d-tackle will be a position of emphasis for next years recruiting class

...so, is HIllard getting his scholarship pulled as well?

amm said:

Why is everyone bagging on Dalton Hilliard. He looks to be a contributor in the future

I think Toma got cold feet after he saw the lineup of good athletes & receivers in front of him. Depth is always nice, but his value is not where it was a few days ago....

TOMA TO NOTRE DAME:

Scout just announced Toma signed with Notre Dame. I guess his buddy Teo convinced him to come with. Oh well, still a stellar class.

Package Deal said:

Te'o didn't do any convincing, Neuheisel did with the "conversation" he had with him after finding out Te'o wasn't coming to Westwood.

BruinFaithful Author Profile Page said:

WOW!!!!!! It gets worse. Looks like Toma bamboozled UCLA. Read this story in Scout. Unbelievable. I guess I was wrong it wasn't Teo. Apparently God told him to pick ND over UCLA. I guess because God is Catholic and not a Mormon now. LMFAO. I wish him the best. He's going to need it. Apparently, he decided without even visiting ND. He took a "virtual tour? UNBELIEVABLE!He's going to find out very soon it's not Hawaii or CA come November. The story also says that he got a silent ND offer 3 weeks ago. Now I've heard it all. Silent commits and now Silent Offers? This is all too much for me. He says he just couldn't bring himself to sign the LOI to UCLA.

BruinFaithful Author Profile Page said:

Whoops. Here's the link to the story. I hope so Package Deal. That might explain him not visiting officially. Read the story though. Maybe Dohn can ask CRN and get some clarification.

Bruinchick and ExBruins:

Not only will DT be a position of focus in 2010. It will be a position of depth in CA in 2010. We didn't take many this year, because there weren't many talented ones available locally. Next years local talent will be deep and we will be in the mix.

I feel sorry for this young man. I watched him in the "Skils Challenge" at the All Star game in Orlando and, based upon his behavior, got the impression he was very immature for an 18 year old. Rick may have played him, but Weis played him even worse. Wait until both Toma and Te'o realize the bill of goods that they've been sold by Fat Charlie. I hope Roby is prepared to prove his stuff to another HC in less than 12 months because the reality is that ND's 16 man class is not going to be able to stop the steamroller that is going to run over a HC that needs a Rascal to get around the field a practice

I don't know how to post a link on here. Most places when you post the URL, it automatically links you to webpage. I guess I need to get Web Linking for Dummies.
