Dohn, Can you comment on the disparity betweent he AP poll and the coaches/ESPN poll?

  • MaltBaa

Three spots is not a disparity

  • MaltBaa

ecspecially on the bottom half of the top 25

  • Nukage

If you haven’t been paying attention, there has been atleast a 3 rank disparity all season long between the AP and the coaches poll. There has to be some sort of explanation for this trend.

  • BruinGuy

It seems simple to me. Coaches voting know the game, writers voting look at the scores.

  • MaltBaa

Well then I guess the AP is consistantly between three and five spots wrong, agreed?

  • UVD

there is an explanation, and it is that the two polls are two completely different groups of people. don’t read too much into the numbers. there is no mathematical formula that is going to explain the “disparity”.

  • Nukage

BruinGuy, I agree. But, I was wondering if Dohn could confirm this. Also, I think the AP has an east coast bias.

  • UB (Ultimate Bruin)

The opposite could be true, BruinGuy and Nukage. The writers watch the college game for a living. So, they are supposed to know what goes on during the games — you know, burn the midnight oil watching replays of ALL the games. On the other hand, the coaches have a program to run. They look at the scores, see what’s in their teams best interest and take a stab at the poll.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the polls, the RPI, the BS (oops, I mean BCS), USC, the IRS and Al-Qaeda all suck! I say, lace ‘em up and it will all be figured out on the court. That is what is great about March. 65 teams have a shot at the title. All they have to do is win 6 — and only 1 team can do that each year!e Carroll are
