Answers, Part VIII

Here is the eight set:

Am I missing something or has Howland admitted that he was out-coached in the NCAA tournament the last two years in the game where UCLA was eliminated (Memphis and Villanova)?
From my experiences with Howland, he admits to being out-coached nearly every time UCLA loses.

Football: what are the three key things UCLA fans should be looking for in spring practice?
Is the quarterback throwing it to the right team, can the offensive line block, does the cornerback opposite Alterraun Verner get beat regularly

If you knew that something was going on at UCLA like what just come out at UCONN, would you write a huge story on it, or because of the relationships you’ve made would it be difficult? Even the slightest bit?
I would report it because that is my job. My job is not to protect people who break the rules. And every coach I’ve been around, and nearly every player I’ve covered, have always respected that about me when I’m doing my job.

What would be the quick pros and cons of each potential starting QB candidates: Craft, Forcier, Prince, Brehaut?
To be honest, there is no reason to discuss Craft of Forcier at this time, and I don’t know about Prince and Brehaut because I have yet to see them in even a scrimmage at UCLA. Ask this question at the end of spring practice.

What do you think of this lineup? Possible?
PG – Holiday
SG – Lee
SF – Dragovic
PF – Gordon
C – Bobo
Can Gordon play the 4? We never got much O out of Luc but his rebounding was a huge help
Well, two things are wrong what you state – if Gordon plays power forward, who backs Morgan up at center? And if you say Gordon, then how many minutes do you expect to get from the foul-prone Gordon. Second, Mbah a Moute provided enough offense, and at least had the threat of a 12-foot jumper. Not to mention he was a great defensive player.

Has Chandler bulked up enough to man the RT spot? Is Sheller healthy enough for the left?
Chandler has added the size, but strength remains to be seen. As far as Sheller, I am told he is, but proof will be in watching him this spring.

Coach Howland talked about JA and Jrue running together, who runs the point in that situation?
I think both can do it, but when push comes to shove, Holiday would be the guy.

A lot of Pac-10 teams will probably lose big time players (Harden, Pendergraph, Brockman, Budinger, Hill, Derozan). Is there a real worry that UCLA will struggle to make the tourney or will the conference be so down we’re at the top?
I think UCLA should be comfortable in making the NCAAs next season, but there is a bundle of youth. In reality, UCLA could have four new starters. As far as being near the top of the conference, I think UCLA should still be able to finish in the top three or four.
