A few more football tidbits

Forgot to mention this in the earlier post, but UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel said he would not know until Tuesday or Wednesday whether DE Reggie Stokes, DE Chinonso Anyanwu and DT Jess Ward were going to be ready for spring practice. Each are dealing with injuries.

More football

I’ll have some stuff throughout the day, but here’s a couple more quick hitters from UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel’s teleconference:
–S E.J. Woods, who was charged with six misdemeanors earlier this month, will practice.
–S Aaron Ware has been having hamstring issues and his status for Thursday’s start of spring practice is uncertain.
–Neuheisel said the punting game is a question until Jeff Locke proves he can do it.
–Neuheisel on JUCO OL Eddie Williams: “Hope he can get through what he needs to get through and be part of the team.”
–Neuheisel also said Sean Sheller (knee) is 100 percent and ready for practice.
–Today is the first day of the spring quarter, and freshman QB Richard Brehaut and JUCO OL Ryan Taylor are enrolled.

Neuheisel on QBs

UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel had a conference call today to preview spring practice, and he said Kevin Prince and Richard Brehaut would get most of the reps early in practice.
“The plan is to give our young kids early repititions, just to see if we hav ea bright, young star on the horizon.”
Neuheisel said it would be wrong to say returning starter Kevin Craft would not be given a chance to retain the starting spot.

Rosario’s jumping

UCLA receiver Nelson Rosario, who is a freshman, had a season-best 24-2.50 in the long jump at the California/Nevada championships Saturday to finish second.
The jump qualified Rosario for the regional qualifier, which he must compete in to get into the nationals
Rosario will now take a break from track and field for spring football practice, which begins Thursday.
On another track note, junior pole vaulter Katy Viuf jumped the 14-1.25 over the weekend. it is the top height in the United States this season, and second highest in the world. She is in her second season as a full-time pole vaulter after spending her freshman year as a UCLA cheerleader.
