Answers, Part XII

There will be at least one more non-Q&A post tonight and I will post the last set of questions Tuesday morning. For now, though, here is 12th part of answers:

Mr. Dohn, since you know much more than you report in the Daily News, can you give us your opinion about Bergman, and how this, if any, impacts Pauley?
I don’t think it has a big impact, although it does look bad publicly. I’m still not sure I know at what rate the project is moving, although I do know (and did report) what AD Dan Guerrero said about it. I know Bergman’s style and philosophy did not sit well with the masses on the project, and there weren’t many sad to see him ousted.

Hey Brian, love the blog and all that you do us. Is it a good or a bad thing that we don’t have that many early commits?
I don’t think it matters at this point. It is about relationships, and as we all found out last year, getting early commitments doesn’t mean those players are going to hang around.

Could you see Xavier Henry to UCLA? If not who might we replace Jrue “Bust” Holiday with?
No, I don’t see Henry going to UCLA. And the only reason I left your reference in to Holiday was to point out that if you think he was a bust, it leads me to believe you had unrealistic expectations of him. I don’t think he was put in position to be a game-changing player because of the personnel UCLA had returning.

There is no way of releasing Jrue from his scholarship so both parties can move on before June?
No. What if Holiday says he wanted to come back? Or if he falls into the second round of draft and then says Howland didn’t want him? That would go over well for future recruiting efforts.

We can agree that we had a pretty slow football team last season right? Now that all of those guys are gaining more weight/muscle, can you see our team speed decreasing further than it already is?
No, the team speed is improving. The players are dropping body fat and adding muscle, trying to become more flexible, are tightening their running technique and are in better condition.

Have you noticed any difference in the defense tactics or preparation with the new coordinator & some new assistants?
No, I have not. The players say there will be more zone defense played, but we shall see.

Is the fullback spot really a fight between Coleman or Moline or is there another option?
No, it will likely be a fight between Moline and injured Trevor Theriot, and incoming freshman Jayson Allmond may get involved in it once training camp begins.

Now that Holiday may be leaving, what are Coach Howland’s options in the back court?
Right now, they are what he talked about when I asked him at the press conference. There is Malcolm Lee, Jerime Anderson, Mustafa Abdul-Hamid and Michael Roll. Howland said he would wait and see about signing another player, if the Bruins can even find one.
