Answers, Part VIII

Here is set No. 8:

I know you haven’t seen most of them yet, but which of the incoming freshmen and JC transfers do you think will not red-shirt and will get a chance for significant playing time?
I couldn’t tell you because it depends on how some of the current guys develop. That said, I would expect OLs Ryan Taylor, Xavier Su’a-Filo and Stan Hasiak to all play.

Any thoughts or observations on the SUC basketball team, which seems to be on the verge of implosion, particularly if Sidney does not actually go there?
Not really, but I wouldn’t say USC is imploding. Let’s see what happens. As many on the blog know, I am a big Tim Floyd fan when it comes to in-game coaching.

Neither Brehaut nor Kevin Prince have played an official game of college football, and yet Prince seems to be playing much better this spring. Did the year of red-shirting help that much, or it something else?
It helped that much. Imagine starting a new job, and one guy gets the manual on how to run things eight months ago before the job starts. Then, he gets to take some test reps of the job. Then, the other guy gets the manual four days before the job starts, and with no ability to take some test reps.

Re Darius Savage: do you see him getting significant playing time this year on the OL? Or do you see him switching back to DT?
I don’t think Savage moves back to DT, but it is hard to say because he is out with an ankle injury and won’t play this spring. As for the OL, I think he will get passed over and be a backup.

Does CRN make any changes to the away uniforms this year?
Not that I’m aware of, but I will check with him.

If A. Dean remains in his current position on the RB depth chart, could/should he red shirt?
He could red-shirt, and I think he will red-shirt. I know UCLA feels like it made a mistake last season in playing him.

Any comments or grumblings from UCLA about DT Marsh’s verbal to Cal?
Just that my sources don’t think it is even remotely over for Marsh’s services, and the recruitment is going to last for a long, long time.

i’ve heard several places comment that one of the keys to usc’s recruiting success is the youth camps they run. does ucla currently have anything like that going on and if not, have they put any thought into doing so?
UCLA runs the same type of camps, as do most of the programs around the country. I don’t think that is what makes USC so good. Having great coaches and great recruiters, year-round, is what makes the Trojans so good.
