All I can say is, wow. I thought Floyd said SC was his last stop on the coaching parade. Why would he leave SC? Money, getting away from the Sidney debacle, or out from Ben's shadow? I'm going with the Ben angle.
Well, we all know Arizona IS the premier program in the Pac-10. Or at least Floydy thinks so.
Sure hope we don't hear another acceptance speech like Calamari's. Pink saying that the U of A job is his dream and all. I find it difficult to believe that Floyd is their dream coach. "The Standard" seems to be dropping their standards.
At USC basketball will always be a distant second to football. At Arizona, Floyd can be the big man on campus. Makes sense to me, especially considering he probably wants to make an exit before sanctions hit USC from all the shady recruiting.
Sweet move by Floyd Sidious, this is.
Escape mess of Lil romero and Linus, he must.
Bad times approaching in Galen, I sense.
Meditate on this I will.
Funny how when Floyd said earlier in his SC career he wanted to be where Arizona is, little did we know that he was speaking literally. LOL.
TIMMEH!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xswRGUZrrG8
timmeh is gonna excel at zona i think. i hope he stays at $c, cuz there, theyll be competitive, but always way 2nd fiddle to UCLA. but at zona...hmmm, i wonder. TIMMEH!!
April Fool's joke?
Give the job to Michael Cooper.
2nd fiddle to ucla? not for long. remember, USC did look more impressive when it mattered at the end of this season. ucla is going downhill, and you can sit in denial if you must, but howland sure did send 3 seniors out pretty badly. not just in the tournament, but what about all season in conference play? and next year? freshman gonna run things? think not. they'll be good, don't get me wrong. but the program has certainly slipped downhill a bit.
I thought Dohn don't deal with rumors... only facts.
i think he knows something we dont and he wants to leave before it comes out.
I thought Dohn don't deal with rumors... only facts.
Who will burst a blood vessel first, Floyd or Stoops? Temper tantrum All-star coaches.
Floyd is an excellent coach and I'm glad he's leaving SC. Arizona was a great program and he's an ideal candidate to return them to their former glory.
If Floyd comes back to SC, that program will implode. Trust has been broken.
Arizona Floyd will go it seems to
Perfect is it, I think it will fit
Oops smells bad, something - pee-yu!
Stepped I did in my own ...
Best of luck to him at UA. I suspect he will do well and it'll only help to make the conference stronger.
...especially if Dixon were to come to USC.
Dixon to SUC??? No way... and why would he? Pitt's a better program, school, facilities, support, (and currently) conference.
any validity to the jamie dixon to USC rumor?
Sir Dohn,
Hasn't there been comments about how Dixon would never want to recruit/play against his good friend Howland?
Has that changed?
Bruin '05,
The FACT is there is a radio report and two television reports. Explain to me where the rumor is.
Why would Arizona want a guy that has been coaching at a program that is about to be slapped (hard) by the NCAA. Oh yea, its Arizona
I see... My apologies.
It's not like Floyd lost three starters from last year's team who are all starting in the NBA (um, that would be Howland). Amazing that Love, Westbrook and Luc are all starting in the NBA. That was the big difference. Luc and Westbrook were surprise departures.
I don't find the AZ job to be much of a promotion over the $C gig. He's brought in better talent, plays the newest venue in the Pac, and so long as he makes the tourney most years, he'll never get sweated as the $C hoops coach.
Another columnist in another paper made the general point that UCLA, UNC, Kentucky, and a few others have programs that are bigger than their coaches. Has AZ reached that point yet? Doubtful at best.
Amusing, USC's dream hires are.
Count Dooku, USC's chances are better to hire, than Dixon or Jackson.
John Wooden, why not?
USC pathos, to bathos has changed.
Meditate on this, I will.
Only a stupid, anonymous Trojan would trash talk about basketball after going 9-9 in the Pac-10 regular season!
Silly little condoms think they have a basketball program...Dream On.
As for Timmy, he will either stay and drive $UC's program into the ground or go to Arizona and get fired there in 3 years driving their program into the ground.
Either scenario is fine with me.
This GREAT news... Now I have a renewed reason why to HATE AZ. To me, AZ was always the "real" rival in basketball. But recently... I've just felt sorry for them. Now, with Timmbo... I can hate them again. Not because they will be any good, but because they have a turd for a coach.
P.s. What ever happened to AZ saying they were gonna get a BIG name coach. Floyd is far from a BIG NAME.
So what is the reaction of the Bruin faithful now that Tim Floyd is staying? Does that make you want to beat him even more after his team beat UCLA for the Pac-10 Tournament Championship? Curious to read your thoughts.
You're all so impatient. Rumors aren't official so stop getting all worked up. Floyd stays, some veterans do too, great recruits help a bit, and USC carries momentum into next season.
hopefully ucla finds some momentum after a disappointing season that way when USC sweeps them the victories are even better.
Peterucla, maybe if ucla's basketball team didn't have the cockiness that you do about the program (that still idolizes john wooden's national titles but can't get any now), they wouldn't have lost to USC when it mattered at the end of the season and been embarrassed by Villanova. You see, losing to SC in the tournament gave you that seed. Howland knew that it would, and you screwed yourselves. ucla knew they'd get a lower seed and fought to win, but were outmatched by USC, just like they'll be next season.
Good luck with Dragovic, freshman & co. leading your team.
Old School (and bruin fans),
You have to learn that ucla basketball fans think they're God's gift to basketball, despite the fact that the program really hasn't lived up to it's tradition. Yes, 3 consecutive Final Four appearances is terrific, but just like USC reaching the Rose Bowl and winning every year, it's still disappointing. Only difference is USC is still carrying enough momentum to actually WIN a national title. But back to basketball.
After keeping Tim Floyd, pulling in some great recruits, and keeping some experienced veterans (with or without DeMar DeRozan), and a season coming off a Pac-10 Tournament Championship, the Trojans look to win the conference outright, sweep the bruins, and make it to the Final Four! Yes, bruin fans will certainly scoff at the thought, but hey- actions will speak louder than words next season!
Fight On!
"actions will speak louder than words next season!"
and that's why yours are meaningless. beat us in the Galen Center before you make those kind of claims.
