Answers, part 13

Folks, thanks for all the questions. Hope the answers were helpful. I will have some updates over the weekend, which I hope is enjoyable and safe for everyone.
Now, on to the last set of answers, lucky 13:

I know you don't cover NBA, but do you think the Clippers should draft Blake Griffin (given their crowded frontcourt), or should they trade down?
I don't know anything about the situation, but I bet Griffin is hoping for a trade.

Do the football players have any curfews / restraints during the season? Restraints as in going to college parties after games and what kind of food they are allowed to eat?
There are guidelines, but not strict rules or restraints like the basketball players have.

I know u say it is a work in progress, but what is ur starting five on the line come sdsu? Starting with LT mine is Sheller, Baca, Maiava, Savage, Sua'-Filo.
I agree with all but Savage. He's not even a factor right now. It will be either Nick Ekbatani or JUCO transfer Ryan Taylor.

Hey, where is the A part of the Q&A?
Its Friday... what am I supposed to do?... work?
Just think how much production your company saw the last three weeks. No wonder there is word the recession may be improving.

It seems that Rutgers has more to gain than UCLA with a football matchup. I don't see this helping UCLA in recruiting or tv exposure. Do you feel UCLA should pursue a higher profile opponent?
Well, think again, and I'm not saying this because of my affinity for Rutgers. Five years ago I would agree, but now Rutgers is concerned a solid program, and New Jersey has excellent talent. I believe seven first-round picks in last month's draft were Jersey guys. Plus, UCLA would get into the New York and Philadelphia markets, and probably a lot of the Big East markets by playing Rutgers.
And, unlike five years ago, playing Rutgers may actually help the strength of schedule and not hurt it.

Brian if you were given the opportunity would you/could you write a book with Coach Wooden?
I could, but the only way I would do it is if the topic was new, and that would be hard given everything that has been written about coach Wooden.

Any update on how work outs coming along for Shipp, Holiday, Collison, Aboya? Are they all still enrolled? Are they putting on muscle?
I am working on it. I talked to Shipp and I am trying to track down the other guys. Hopefully, early next week I will have a story.

So now UCLA is going to break into the Jersey and New York market. Right.

I agree with your starting five on the OL. Only Baca and Ekbatani are likely to be starters carrying over from last year. Harris, Dean, and Savage seem likely to be contributors as reserves but not starters. That goes a long way towards describing how poorly the OL played last season in that 3 returning starters will be replaced by newcomers.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
