Blog update

| | Comments (51) |

I apologize to those of you who want extensive UCLA coverage right now. I cover many things beside UCLA, and right now I'm covering a lot of Dodgers, including the Manny Ramirez national story that broke today.
I find myself deleting a lot of crude comments. I should just shut down the comments section right now. Consider this a final warning. I don't have time to deal with people behaving like children.
And to those of you who base sports coverage on gender, shame on you.

this comment isn't based on gender. the blog has gone downhill. starting to realize brian is a cut above.

Greg said:

I can't believe how rude some of the comments were. I am ashamed of these posters, Jill. Please don't judge us all in the same way.

anonymous said:

what, no comments now from the bruin faithful? it is hilarious to see ms. painter address all you ruins like third graders, but alas, i guess it is what it is...scott wolf never had to dress down his fans in public, how humiliating for you people...grow up, or not

Anonymous said:

Seriously whats the harm Jill? The 100 post count on the previous thread was funny. Only reason I've been back to the blog was to check on that.

Joe Lern said:

Scott Wolf doesn't have fans so I don't think that comment makes any sense...

Jill you're doing a good job.....it's that time of the year where spring training and scrimmage is over, basketball is over. So there is nothing much to talk about, it's not your fault.

Wow said:

At the rate the posts of "News" updates are going, the comments are the only thing interested left about this blog.

PakistaniBruin said:

We don't give Jill enough credit. She's pulling a "Jon & Kate." That "what if" post was intentionally dimwitted and a ploy to generate more buzz for the blog. You're a genius Jill! Keep up the cleverly dumb and irrelevant posts.

Javy said:

There is no UCLA news guys. Jill is covering the Dodgers and cant be on campus like Dohn was.

Either way, Brian is gonna pissed off at you animals who were putting Jill down.

Jill,

Most of us appreciate your pinch hitting for Brian. We realize that you have a full-time job elsewhere.

Nice work on the stories on Dean, Carter and Johnson. Sorry for the crude comments from others. I don't believe such posters are reflective of the high standards of UCLA.

This has turned into a microcosm of society. Everyone is so hyper-sensitive and politically correct it is disgusting. This is one of the reasons why our country has become so soft. Everyone is walking around on egg shells worrying about hurting peoples feelings. Don’t score too many runs in little league it might hurt the kids feeling.

People aren’t making fun of the post because it was written by a woman they are making fun of it because it was stupid.

Jill if you can’t handle the heat from sub-par performance, then you should shut down the blog.

I almost cried at this comment.

I wonder how many of these posters realize that DN's Tony Jackson was let go. And now Jill is following one of the biggest breaking national stories of the year.

posters can whine and make snide and sexist comments all they want. but they are not the ones burning through the shoe leather, or whatever that cliche is.

Most readers realize that Dohn needs a vacation, and are appreciative of anything you can give us.

Thanks Jill

That's so funny VB. Just earlier you called us a bunch of "sexist pigs," and now you take a shot at my ethnicity. Hypocrisy at its greatest--I love it! And only a moron would think that Pakistan's nuclear arsenal is susceptible to being captured by the Taliban.

Anonymous said:

Jill, you seriously might want reconsider your level of writing if you can not take criticism from people you don't even know. Not everybody is going to like what you write. You've obviously have been a writer for most of your life so if you haven't realized that yet, it's a bit sad.

We should meet up in the fall at the Rose Bowl, VB.

Why wait? Why don't we meet up sometime today? I can give you my home address.
Here's my email: aahmed@ucla.edu

Don't do it, VB. It's a trap. His terrorist friends will just be waiting for you. You saw what they did to Danny Pearl. Think of Brian and Jill, and how disheartening it will be their self esteem not to have you around to suck up to them all the time.

go troll on some other boards. Damn no ones making you guys to come back to read this blog.

LOL...I just don't believe in behaving like a tough guy gangster on the internet. So why don't you come over and we'll settle this like real(non-virtual)men. Since you're so interested in Pakistan, I'll show you why their government is having so much trouble controlling their militant and wayward people. My address is as follows: 20802 Rim Lane, Walnut 91789

VB is a racist, why am I not surprised.

VB I have an idea, contact UB or any other member of your tailgating group and send them to this post. Let's see if your father or any of the others say they're proud to know and/or be related to you.

Anonymous said:

Wow...

PakistaniBruin... You still have a "ucla.edu" address... I take it that you're still a student.

Here's some advise, kid. Don't give away your home address on the internet no matter how hot-headed you are. You don't know how much trouble this is going to cause you.

Jill,

In all seriousness, I'd like to see VB's account banned from this board. I find his comments extremely offensive. I believe Brian Dohn has kicked people off for just trolling and insulting sports teams, which is nowhere near and bad as this.

PakistaniBruin said:

You're right guys! I got way too hot-headed. I find it amusing how VB condemned others as "sexist pigs" and turns around and takes an unprovoked swipe at my ethnicity. I never took a shot at Jill based on her gender, however, I did convey my dismay over the lack of newsworthiness of the "what if" post--albeit diplomatically. I actually have respect for people who are honest about being prejudice/racist, but I can't tolerate hypocrites and internet gangsters like VB. Visitors on this site have every right to make observations(whether positive or negative) so for you to bring in race just shows your cowardice. Try doing it in person buddy.

Hey PakistaniBruin, grow up. What adult challenges people to fist fights? VB was being an idiot. Let his comments speak for themselves. People are so damn sensitive.

PakistaniBruin said:

Hmm...You wrote: "keep in mind that PakistaniRUIN is the one who is bragging about his nationality within his s/n.

Pakistan... pfffffffffffff....Allowing Pakistan to have nukes is like allowing a grade-schooler to have a Rolex." Why the hell would you bring up Pakistan on a UCLA blog?

Don't even worry about sharpness. VB is just a tool.

The Donkey finds this whole debate regarding Pakistan quite hilarious. The Donkey would also like to call VB out for the child that he is. The Donkey is wondering if VB was even able to get into ucla, let alone USC.
The Donkey is proud of PakistaniBruin for being admitted into quite a prestigious school like ucla, though The Donkey would have liked him better if he had gone to USC.
Nonetheless VB is a sissy girl who needs to bow down to his maker and suck his ****.

GOD BLESS

Ignorant people don't understand the concept of civility. Ignorant people, for example, believe that freedom of speech allows them to be vulgar. These people look for external rules to limit their actions and don’t have internal restrain……they are like children always testing the rules until an adult tells them that it is wrong.

Jill may have written a stupid comment. Yes, people are allowed to comment, but this does not mean that one should be offensive or insulting. They hide their insults behind the argument that she is a writer and she should be used to criticism…..criticism is one thing, rudeness is another (maybe this concept is to complex for people to understand).

There is no rule that limits people from being rude, but people should have the sense not to do it. If you don’t like it, don’t visit the site until next week when Dohn comes back.

You obviously have other more important work to do so get to it. We who read Brian's web daily like the time and effort he puts into the BRUIN info. YOU again have other things to do, can't take critisim for the poor effort you have put into this, so do what is best for yourself and the rest of us. Close this down until Brian gets back and can do what is requiried. It is evident you can't do what is required. What a waste this has been since you were givin this assignment. Look ashamed, more, more, more.

VB,

I doubt you'll see PakiBruin at the Rose Bowl. I'm guessing he's one of the thousands of students who show up to each game disguised as empty seats.

Wow. This is sad and embarrassing. (I assume that the majority of this blogs readers are Bruins.)

I would not be surprised if Jill/Brian decide (after years of threatening) to finally restrict the comments section somehow, which would suck because some things you guys write are actually insightful and interesting.

The notion that Jill is a professional and therefore should be thick-skinned and any criticism is somehow legitimate is ridiculous. She made one blog entry that you found irrelevant. SO WHAT!!?? It's a blog!! Also, I bet 90% of you would never say this cr@p her to her face. But since this is the internet you can safely be the jerks you so desperately want to be. Why don't you stand-up to your wives or bosses or whoever you need to instead of subjecting the rest of us to your repressed anger and frustration. You're nothing but a bunch of keyboard bullies.

PakistaniBruin said:

As I stated earlier my cousin recently lost his leg fighting the Taliban in Pakistan, so when VB started making his comments I took them to heart. My most sincere apologies for partaking in such boorish behavior, and I apologize if I offended anyone or disrupted the purpose of this blog. And VB, I accept your apology and look forward to meeting you in the fall(give me your email). Let's put an end to this petulance. Go Bruins!

Anonymous said:

VB didn't go to ucla like many of those who post here. VB is an embarrassment to ucla alum and community. The blog was so much better when he wasn't posting. The ignorance and childish comments turn the blog into a joke. PakanastiniBruin, let's try to refrain from $c thuggish behavior. I understand your reaction, but don't let a moron ruin your day. Please, don't ever post your address.

Some of you guys are idiots and I am ashamed that you breath the same air as I do. Good job Jill, do not pay attention to many of these trolls; they are losers and have nothing better to do. This blog should make signing-in mandatory so that you can weed out all the STUPID people.

Ever heard of the word 'ban'? If people sign in and act stupid, then ban them. The only reason you feel insulted is probably because you are one of those stupid people I called out. If name calling is all you got then you are a sad individual who is not worth the effort. Why comment anonymously? Hiding behind the keyboard is the ultimate sign of bravery, right?

in response to "second that"

i guess you havent seen other football blogs or any blogs that follow sports on a wide scale or you would have never made that statement about the SEC ruling college football. if it wasnt for USC, the Pac-10 would not receive any love. SEC posters are some of the most ignorant, racist, trollin' a-holes around and they make these post look like grade school. maybe if UCLA fans would support their bloggers and players, bickering between fans wouldnt happen, like in this thread. its all smoke and mirrrors because any dummy can make a post but at least dont attack your own and definitely dont credit the SEC with all their backwood logic and west coast hatred!
