Dominique Johnson and Cal Poly SLO

Former UCLA receiver Dominique Johnson said he was transferring to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, a Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) so he could play two seasons.
“I didn’t want to sit out a year and then have one more season of eligibility,” he said. “I wanted to use my last two years of eligibility and make the most of it. I was pretty set on I-AA from jump.”
If he transferred to a Football Bowl Subdivision school, he would have had to sit out a year under NCAA transfer rules. Since Johnson has only two years of eligibility remaining, he said he didn’t want to waste one of those years sitting on the bench.
“They were in need of a guy,” Johnson said. “They lost their top two (receivers). They didn’t have a standout after spring practice.
