Here is the ninth installment:

Men's National Team
Pounded in South Africa
World Cup disaster?
Must qualify first
Early goals are troublesome
Is Bradley the guy?

you have been saying all along that you felt Warner would end up at NMSU. Just your gut feeling, or is there a story behind the story that you cannot share?
A story I cannot share.

A while ago, I believed UCLA had a strong chance at landing Josh Shirley, but his offer list has exponentially increased. Do we still have a strong shot at him?
I think UCLA has a very good chance to land Shirley. He is a model UCLA player.

Is Anthony Barr being recruited as a RB? Is he open to playing other positions (LB/DE)?
Right now he is being recruited as a running back. I don't know if he is open to other positions, but so many are recruiting him as running back I'm not sure he will change.

McDonald, a CB or S? Also, did UCLA pursue him any harder because he has USC bloodlines?
He's a cornerback, and if UCLA is pursuing kids harder because of USC bloodlines, this staff should just quit now.

In last week's Q&A, you stated "it is not the last-minute signees that is keeping UCLA from pushing for commits, it is the lack of development of some of the players they signed." Were you refering to incoming 2009 signees or the prior recruiting class?
Some of the freshmen coming in.

Now that Tevin McDonald has gone public, can you say whether he was one of the silent commits you were referring to last week?
Yes, he was.

On recruits who need to complete courses during summer school, why can't they finish their work at UCLA. Maybe things have changed, but I recall that there were little or no admission requirements for attending UCLA during summer sessions.
Because in order to be admitted to UCLA, they need to be eligible, and admissions isn't going to take a UCLA summer class to get a kid eligible from another school. Also, high school kids cannot take a college course to become eligible.

Whoa. I don't know if this is just some wild coincidence, but a couple of years ago playing NCAA Football 2007 for the Xbox 360, I was in Dynasty Mode and I recruited a RB named Anthony Barr for the Bruins, who ended up being a star player.

Weird.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
