Here is the 10th set:

You were on the money regarding your expectation that there would be one or more commitments at the one day camp. Based on your sources, should commitments be expected from the three day camp which starts Monday?
I am hearing it is likely, but not a guarantee. We shall see, and if there is a commitment(s), I will let everyone know about.

Happy to see an 'ol friend in Jim Tracy back in the saddle & winnning with the Rockies?? Where does he rank in the individuals you have covered? Keep up the great work Brian.
Tracy is one of the classiest guys I have dealt with, but he is frustrating as well because he will never say anything that will offend anyone. But he is a great guy, and I hope he has tons of success.

What was the point of mcdonald giving a silent verbal? if you do not feel comftorable telling then whats the point to a silent verbal?
He has things he had to take care of, like tell other schools recruiting him, but he wanted to let the coaching staff (and others) know he was comfortable with UCLA, and they had no reason to worry about losing him.

HOw many more defensive backs is ucla looking to sign for this class?
I'm not sure at this point, but based on the last few recruiting classes, it really doesn't matter, does it? Seems like the Bruins have too many already.

With all of the OL help coming in this summer, does the coaching staff have plans of moving Savage back to DT for depth?
Not that I'm aware of. He didn't get a chance to practice in the spring because of an ankle injury, but that is something I will ask coach Rick Neuheisel when I talk to him next.

Any update on the Joshua Smith recruiting trail? Or is it still mainly us vs. Washington?
I am hearing he is feeling UCLA a lot now, and he could commit to the Bruins by the end of the summer. He is on my call list for next week, so look for an update on the blog.

Any feeling on where Christian Thomas ends up?
Not really. I know UCLA, as well as every other school, loves him, but I think it will come down to UCLA and USC.

With Warner leaving for NMSU, what is the situation at DT? Do you believe a freshman (possibly Uko?) will get significant playing time? I get scared thinking of the position...
Uko isn't in the equation because he is a class of 2010 kid. He will be playing at Lugo High in the fall. And scared isn't the word I would chose for UCLA's DT situation, but I would use concern.

Good luck getting Josh Smith to answer his phone. One of the reasons he is making a decision probably by the end of July is because he is sick and tired of all of the phone calls. Just warning you now that he won't talk to you.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
