E.J. Woods' court case
The pre-trial hearing for UCLA safety E.J. Woods was put off until June 24, according to city attorney's office spokesman Frank Mateljan. He added the defense asked for a continuation in the case.
Woods is charged with six misdemeanor counts of battery, including two sexual battery counts.

what is sexual battery? is that like rape?
No, it would be something like patting someone on the rear end or grabbing the chest of a female when it's not wanted. It's a misdemeanor 243.4 PC!
Where there is smoke, there is fire...
LAWYER JOHN
In short answer to query posed by Anonymous 3:31 p.m., a sexual battery is a type of battery (akin to a cell phone battery or laptop battery) used for electrical storage in order to provide electrical power to certain devices used for stimulation of, well, you know.
In reference to the the Penal Code, it can also mean contact with another in a manner likely to cause bodily harm.
LAWYER JOHN
LAWYER JOHN makes an excellent point - where there is smoke, there is fire. Too many issues around EJ Woods. Hope LJ and the other trOJies out there can say the same about their Basketball and Football program.
DFWTrojan is always too biased, but I know LJ is more sensible. Good in him, Yoda senses.
Who's the victim?
It is off point from the original post, but just by way of clarification, 243.4 PC says nothing about the fact that it is likely to cause bodily harm. It does mention "Mentally incapacitated," "Seriously disabled," I institutionalized" and "Minor." It is a specific intent crime and one that is very difficult to prove. It happens way too much, but incredibly difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. The mindset of the offender at the time it took place must be proven and while easy to arrest, is tough to convict. EJ skates that charge, but the others are far more easy to convict. "Battery" is much easier to prove and may be what convicts him (anyone for that matter). If proven guilty, most recommendations will be for probation but his background would play a part.
None of you have a clue what you are talking about in this matter. You are making a truckload of false assumptions about a young man who has been accused by a woman looking for revenge. EJ's girlfriend was present at the time. What would you really think could have gone on? I am not so sure that battery will be proven, either, even if generically speaking it is an easier charge to prove.
"looking for revenge"
Can you expand on that?
Usually the bitter ex cases get thrown out before it reaches this point.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL US WHAT ALLEGEDLY HAPPENED???
man i hope hes innocent, i hope hes not evil like OJ..... if hes found guilty they should force him to transfer to the trOJans.....
I can explain it. Here is the story I wrote in mid March about it:
Woods charged with battery
UCLA FOOTBALL: Freshman safety, a former Crespi star, arrested in January on misdemeanor.
Author: Brian Dohn, Staff Writer
Article Text:
UCLA freshman safety E.J. Woods was charged with six misdemeanor counts of battery and sexual battery stemming from three alleged incidents during a four-month span, the office for Los Angeles city attorney Rocky Delgadillo announced Friday.
Woods was arrested Jan.6 by the UCLA police department on alleged misdemeanor battery.
The incidents involved a pair of female UCLA students, and took place at off-campus student apartments, city attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan said.
Woods, 19, had two counts of sexual battery and four counts of battery filed against him, Mateljan said. He is scheduled to be arraigned April 6 at LAX Municipal Courthouse.
"We are aware the city attorney's office has filed misdemeanor charges involving E.J. Woods," UCLA spokesman Marc Dellins said via statement. "We will continue to monitor the legal process. Due to federal and state student privacy laws and the fact that this is a legal issue, we are not at liberty to further discuss the situation."
Woods, who prepped at Crespi High of Encino, did not return a phone message left for him. Bruins coach Rick Neuheisel declined comment, citing student privacy laws.
Woods remains an active member of the football team, but he will face discipline regardless of the outcome of the charges, according to sources. After Woods was arrested, he was disciplined by Neuheisel, sources said. A UCLA spokesman would not comment.
Woods did not play in 2008, and he is expected to contend for playing time in the fall. Mateljan said the alleged incidents occurred between October 2008 and this past January.
"It was repeated times," Mateljan said. "It was inappropriate sexual contact."
Woods allegedly touched the female student in a sexual manner, and he "kept making unwanted" advances, Mateljan said. After the third incident, a friend of the alleged victim confronted Woods, Mateljan added.
"Her friend told him not to do it, and he told the friend to 'Get out of my face' and pushed her back by her throat," Mateljan said. "They then went to the UCLA police to file a complaint, and it was forwarded to us."
Woods' faces a maximum of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine for each charge, Mateljan added.
Well, I still stick to the "innocent until proven guilty" belief that our nations court are supposed to uphold.
Unfortunately I'm sure all the Bruins that are still convinced Mark Sanchez was guilty for one single accusations (although never charged) won't do so for Woods.
...right?
Inglewood,
"I am not so sure that battery will be proven, either, even if generically speaking it is an easier charge to prove." I would agree that the battery charge MAY not stick and without evidence (which I doubt there is), everything is heresay. "None of you have a clue what you are talking about in this matter." To blanket this to everyone posting on the subject is short sighted. I am ONLY speaking from a law enforcement point of view and it is absolutely factual. EJ is innocent until proven guilty and should be treated as such.
if things don't work out, i have a scholie for E.J.!
no questions asked.
If Tim Floyd leave, Michael Cooper will slide over from the women's team.
Actually, I've been calling to make Coop to men's basketball coach ever since the rumors of him becoming the women's coach started circulating.
It is much more likely that EJ will plead down the charges.
