Josh Shirley talks recruiting
UCLA target Josh Shirley, a linebacker from Kaiser Fontana, lists the Bruins, Tennessee, USC, Washington and Cal as schools he is looking at, but his decision won't come down strictly to football.
"Academics are first,'' he said. "I'm looking at business and marketing for life after football. On one play you can get hurt, and you need something to fall back on."
As for as on the field, Shirley said he plans on being a hybrid player, mixing between time between linebacker and defensive end.
"That way I can rush the quarterback, and do other things," Shirley said. "All the schools I'm talking to said I can do all that stuff."
Shirley said he was in no hurry to make a decision, and could wait until after his senior season to do so.

If only all athletes thought this way...
Someone needs to tell the kid that if he is really serious about a career in Business and Marketing, the MBA is the path to take. It really doesn't matter, much, what you do as an undergrad. On the other hand, if that's his rational for selecting a school to play football at, if it was me, and if I was stuck on a serious business major, I don't think I would pick UCLA. But, that doesn't mean it can't be done at UCLA. They just don't have a formal undergrad business major with a marketing emphasis. I guess if the front door is closed, you can always go try the back door (or side door), right?
uuhh...yoda on acid?
I agree with rejn. I was a Business/Econ major as an undergrad at UCLA and then got my MBA from UCLA Anderson. Looking back, I wish I had majored in English and Engineering.
identity of fake Yoda, easy to find is.
preccupation with scatalogical thoughts, he has.
more, i expect from an imposter,
than, "pooped his pants, Yoda has."
desperate, USC fans have become.
yet imminent, the NCAA Death Star remains.
meditate on this you must.
DoubleBruin:
Not necessarily true brotha. We really really need a strictly undergrad B major at UCLA. I wish it was available, I would have taken that route. All that Econ theory stuff isn't always useful or necessary in the biz world. Wall Street hires kids straight out of undergrad B school. Donald Trump never got his MBA, he worked straight out of Wharton B School. Not that I necessarily think it hurts us in recruiting. Overall, I just think it's important for an institution like UCLA to have an undergrad B program. Almost every UC school has one. I don't understand why we don't. We should create one and make it our crown jewel.
Umm, not sure if you guys missed this in the freshman tour, but the college of letters and sciences is a liberal arts college.
You'll NEVER see business, accounting, etc. in L&S.
In a video on scout, Shirley was asked about which of his offers were standing out to him and we were the first school mentioned, followed by USC and Tennessee
