Monte Vista High of Danville quarterback Brett Nottingham said he was flying home rather than attend USC's Rising Stars camp after orally committing to UCLA on Tuesday.
Here is the reason why he committed to play at UCLA:
"I'm going to be able to play football for great coaches," he said. "I'm going to have an opportunity to have a great degree from there and have fun doing it, and learn a lot about football."
despite the 3*, I've heard good things about this kid. Here's hoping Norm and Ricky can turn him into something good.
19 2008 NFL 1st round picks were 3 stars coming out of HS.
He isn't Austin Hinder, but he should be a good back-up at a minimum. It's a down year for quarterbacks anyhow.
Attention Brett Nottingham: Just remember to walk far away from Neuheisel coming off the field after you thrown an interception.
According to Rivals.com, he had offers from Wyoming, Nevada, UC Davis, San Diego State, and Stanford. If I were him, I would have committed to UCLA also.
good move going home early. strongly doubt he was going to get an offer from USC, so why waste time at the Rising Stars camp.

McCoy and Bradford were 3 stars. They did pretty well their fresh and soph years.
One of Brett's sisters just graduated from UCLA and the other is a SR next year.
Last yr he threw for 3K plus and 39TDs and he has a 4.0 and wants to major in Econ.
He probably wouldnt get an offer, but he should still goto the USC Rising stars camp. The talent at the Rising Stars camp is very good, so he'd be able to compete with some of the elite players. He could also learn from the USC coaches.
One day, I hope UCLA could attract the talent that the USC Rising stars camp gets.
No need to embarrass himself. That will come soon enough when he plays at UCLA.

This kid got offers from Stanford and Colorado in the last week, and he was really starting to heat up. Tennessee also wanted him to visit, and they said they would offer if he did. Given that we have two freshmen QB's right now, we weren't going to get a 5-star commit.
Great stat by "a" above at 8:28 last night. Also, it definitely is a down year for QBs. Rivals.com has exactly zero QBs rated as 5-stars so far in the class of 2010.
One thing to note - all of the kids who've committed so far appear to be very good students. Perhaps there's more going on in Ricky's mind than meets the eye...?

Hopefully this group of "very good students" knows how to get their transcripts to UCLA in a timely and safe manner.
Or they may wind up at New Mexico State like Branden Warner.

Bradford and McCoy were NOT 3 star recruits out of HS. They were both 4 star recruits. Bradford in 2006 and McCoy in 2005. Oh, and the other top QB's in these two classes? Matthew Stafford and Tim Tebow were both 5 star QB's in 2006 and Mark Sanchez was a 5 star and number 1 overall player in 2005. For those of you who say stars don't matter.
I hope this kid is a riser. He has great size and speed, 6-4 210 and a 4.7 40. He's obviously smart, which is a HUGE intangible. He has a 4.0 and his dad is a UCLA Med School Graduate, so we know academics were stressed in his household.
Question is, why was he our 4th or 5th choice?

Brett, would have considered Stanford, if they had indicated interest, his Grand Father Philip Nottingham (deceased) is a Stanford Alumnus, class of 1948. His Grandmother Pat Nottingham is a Cal Bear (Berkeley Grad).
Philip would have lobbied hard 4 his Alma Mater if he where still with us. He loved football, and was an avid sportsmen. In memory of my dad Philip Baruth Nottingham, i do hope that Brett reconsiders Stanford as an option, although I know zilch regarding the recruiting process, I believe that he is allowed to change his mind. UCLA should be exuberant, as Brett a solid 4-Star Pro Style quarter has much to offer whom ever is lucky enough to land him for the college level ball, he has depth of talent, attitude, and character.
