About Inside UCLA
This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.About this Entry

Not a hire for $C, and having some cross town competition would be good for pac-10 hoops.. so none of your options really fit how I see the hire... plus he looks like a mad scientist..
I think he was probably one of the best hire SUC could get considering the state of their program. I hope he does well, because as stated above, good cross town cometition is good for UCLA's program.
After reflecting on SC's hiring of O'Neill, it seems possible that he could be their next Pete Carroll. I would suggest to the SC Atheltic Dept that they should give him a good 3-5 years, heck maybe 5-8 years to recruit his guys, put in his system and to instill his philosophy and try to get the program back on its feet. Or back on its knees as its been historically the case.
At least when UCLA hired Dorrell as football coach, there was some buzz and excitement because Karl is a Bruin. Obviously USC is so arrogant that they don't believe their basketball program needs any additional hype - they're so good, so popular, so much on the mind of all their students and alums that it doesn't matter who they bring in. After isn't their claim to fame this - "We are SC." What a bunch of garbage...
Glad to see you took my advice and posted more USC related content. bruin fans just can't get enough USC news.
Definition of "irony": A trojan troll who seems to spend a significant amount of time on a UCLA sports blog, only to post comments about how he can't understand why Bruins spend so much time thinking about usc sports!
Perhaps they can hire Stais Boseman to be their assistant coach...
Fantastic hire for $UC. It all but insures their return to P10 basketbll obscurity. It relegates the Galen Center to attendance rivaling the $UC BB program in the "Sports Arena" days.
And I disagree withe the other posters about a "competitive" program across town. I hope Figueroa Tech becomes second to Occidental College on Downtown LA sports powerhouses.
SUC (sic) in se malum est. ((c) 2008, UB!)
Actually Jewin, I'm not a USC fan. Sorry.
It's a slow period right now. Besides, most bruin fans are interested in news related to the imploding program from across town. The scandals are getting national attention. Many are interested in how the "rivalry" is going to look next year and beyond.
Still not a fan of the term "SUC"
