Woods and scholarships

With UCLA safety E.J. Woods looking to transer, it means UCLA's scholarship count should not be an issue as it creeps closer to the NCAA maximum of 85.
There is a lot of time before August training camp begins, and I am hearing it is possible at least one more player could be leaving the program (I am not at liberty to disclose who right now).

My GUESS is that QB Nick Crissman is the next in line to get his bus ticket out of LA. Good luck to all that have been shown the door already.

Panchito.

Well, this helps solve the scholarship problem as well as the legal problem. It is too bad though, the kid was talented.

Don't like being 3rd on the depth chart? How about using that to motivate you and work harder so you can break the starting line up. How about working through your legal issues and show that you have learned your mistakes. Show that you're a character guy able to handle adversity and coming out ahead. If he transfers, I wish him the best, but I wish he would stick it out and deal with what life brings him. Will make him that much better, athletically and mentally.

Just wanted to say thanks for all your hard working reporting on my beloved Bruins. Appreciate your professionalism in not disclosing your info or sources, even though it could potentially be pretty juicy. Keep up the good work!

Absolutely agree with Zealot. Guys need to work harder rather than transfer. SC is 3 deep at 4-5 star recruits and they don't jump ship like this. Makes you wonder about the commitment.

I hate losing players like this, but I hate going 5-7 more.

So long, EJ. Best of luck, pal.

I still think the UCLA coaching staff is purging its ranks of the weak, stupid, immature, lazy, problematic, arrogant, obstreperous, immoral, classless, clueless and infantile.

Once again, I don't think CRN, Chow and Chuck now nothing on the evaluation of talent. Perhaps putting him 3rd on the depth chart was the staff's way of saying, look elsewhere son.

EJ never played a down for UCLA, yet his is "upset" with being 3rd on the depth chart. EJ, I look you better off the depth chart entirely!

Attention all Footballers! We only want hard-working team oriented players. At this point in history -- Year 2 AD (after Dorrell), I give the benefit of the doubt to the staff that they are trying to purify their workforce and up the talent and character of the team!

There is definitely a shaking out process going on, and the benefits will show up in 2 seasons when better recruits have been brought in and have started to develop. A national championship is still a few years away, but if Rick stays the course, keeps focussed, and always hires reputable, professional staff to train our kids, the rewards will come.

This is an easy one...

Tricky Ricky promised the kid a starting spot during recruitment; the only reason the kid would commit to second rate program in the first place.

Then, when the kid is 3rd on the depth chart, he finally realized that Rick is a Dick (lying bag of hot air) and decided there is no reason to stay if he's not starting...

This kid will do get at the school he ends up. Im sure he learned lot from this terrible court case. I have faith in this young black man. He will end up in the NFL and will have the UCLA program second guessing themselves.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
