Football commitment
Just got word that former Birmingham High of Lake Balboa defensive lineman Marquis Jackson gave a non-binding oral commitment to play for UCLA. He is at College of the Canyons, and will transfer to UCLA for the 2010 season.
I will have more shortly.

3 stars per Scout and he had offers from Arizona State, Kentucky, LSU, Minnesota, Oregon and Washington. My guess would be a few others.

That is what our recruiting class is going to look like if we don't pick it up.
Yes, I know, it's not always about the Stars, but it also shouldn't be all about 3 Stars either.
I'm sure TruBruin is Thrilled to hear the news and is doing Michael Jackson crotch grabs and Moonwalks all across his living room right about now, while yelling, "Markee-heees".
Jackson also made 1st team JC AA as a frosh. He looks to be a good get if all goes well.
Here is his highlight vid from HS though it looks like he is playing against shorter players like Nottingham. Maybe the coaching staff can recruit a shorter DE next time.

I dont know, I think if a team like LSU offered him, after having the best recruiting class in the nation last year, he is a legitimate D1 player.
Also, his twin plays for the TrOJies, so there is athleticism in his family.
I was being facetious about the stars of course, but if OR and LSU are after him, he sounds good. absent reviewing film on each kid (which no one short of a full time recruiter can do) noting which programs are after a kid is the best was to judge his talent, no?
What! did someone say my name?
Mr. Faithless, I am sure you are a quality individual in person, however on this blog you are quite a chicken little. There are a few of our 3* recruits that will be 4* after they play their senior year of football. We need d-line guys after we loose Brian Price next year and its the toughest position to recruit. How quickly you forget the stellar recruiting class we had last year. After languishing thru the Dorrell years and all those weak recruiting classes, I think complaining about the stars connected to recruits before they play their final year of HS football is a bit premature and quite Chicken Little of you. My excitement is based on what I see on the field and not the stars I see on a recruiting list
HAVE SOME FAITH!
