And to all a good night

Hello all,

Thanks for keeping up with the blog throughout the day, and especially a thank you to all those who left kind comments. I truly appreciate them. I appreciate the not-so-nice comments, as well, and I’ll do my best to keep things rolling.

We at The Daily News appreciate your patience and understanding in the transition from Brian Dohn to his replacement. Although, it seems, replacement might not be the correct word. Dohn did more with the UCLA beat, and this blog in particular, than I, personally, could ever realize. After just one day, I’m awed at his persistence and, quite frankly, his true love for what he did. I’m excited to be part of the team in the interim, and I hope to keep this thing moving.

On a related note, please, please!, let me know what you guys want to see more of at practice tomorrow. I’ll try to get there early and start going, and I’ll especially try to get some guys before they get out on the field. I’ll toss some odds and ends out there tomorrow morning to whet the appetite!

Have a good night, all, and thanks again for reading and for the comments.
Take care.

Could you let us know if any notable recruits are at practice tomorrow?

  • Blue Bruin

Any idea why practice is divided up in the first place, and why it’s first team/third team and second team/fourth team? When will UCLA practice as a unit?

    Great job Jon!

  • bruinbiochem06

I want to know who is standing out in practice. I’m also interested in how Hasiak and X are doing. Thanks for doing a great job.

  • ABC

Great job!!! Best one day coverage of UCLA I have ever seen.

  • BruinJigs

Tremendous job today Jon! Really appreciated it!

As far as what else fans might want to see on the blog, is just a few quick hits. Some notable plays in practice, some notable players in practice. How did the freshman look, who stood out, etc.

    Again, great job!

  • mwkiley

Great First Day Jon! Keep up the good and hard work!

  • 13-9

    Outstanding first day Jon.

Keep us updated on which of the freshman are getting the most reps and which recruits are on hand.

Looking forward to 20 or so more days like this.

I just noticed that the blog has officialy changed “Inside UCLA” and Brian’s bio has been removed replaced with the DN staff.
Crazy!!!and Thanks Jon for the great work today.
Compared with the amount of updates the last few weeks I was exhausted keeping up with blog.
    Thanks again!!

  • northbaybruin

  • barrya

Let me echo what others have said – great job day one, Jon! Really nice to have the blog back!

    awesome job man

  • MVBruin

Hey great first day o the job Jon! Well done!

I’m sure you are aware of the importance of our OL and QB play this year. I’m many would love any insight you can give us on the OL and QB play in the next 2 weeks. How are the new guys coming along and how is Prince and Brehaut doing?

  • Dohn’s Ghost

Wow Jon you absolutely killed it today. You kept the ball rolling. Outstanding!

  • TruBruin

So far so good, Just keep being the best Jon Gold rather than living up to Dohn’s standard. Not to ask you to be like Dohn, but last season he posted audio of the coaches press inerviews that were pretty interesting because we could hear the tone of the coaches takes on the team and got us feeling like we were actually there.
It was particularly nice to hear something other than the previous 5 years of Dullard’s daily quotes on effort and execution

  • bbruin

good job, I liked the multiple post format. You are doing a fine job with great energy. I hope you stay with the blog.

  • j_doe

Excellent first day! It is good to have you here.

Since the OL was such a disaster last year, it would be great to hear more about how they are doing, and particularly if the freshman, and Sheller are making a difference.

  • tdabruin

Thank you for a job very well done. I look forward to more.

    Go Bruins!

  • Awesome job way to keep us informed, see ya tommorow!

Yup Brian was pretty much the f’ing man. Now go home and get your shinebox Brian!

  • UCLA ’64

    Hi Jon,

Let me repeat a couple of things others have written. You did a fantastic job today, and I’m sure you can see that Bruin fans appreciate it. Someone asked for audio of the press conference. Perhaps, you could just link the video of Coach Neuheisel’s conference. It’s free at UCLA’s official site, and it would save you some work.

I’d, also, like to have you keep us up-to-date on the progress of the O-line and the quarterback position throughout fall practice since we need big improvement there.

Thanks for doing such a great job!

  • cali

The 1’s should go against 1’s. That other school across town does this. Hint, hint.

  • Jewin

Dude, you did a great job today. Over the next few days, if you can let us know which recruits are coming by and, even better, if you can try to talk to any of them to get a sense of where they are in the process, that would be great!

Thanks again for the excellent work today.

  • Joe Bruin

Good work, Jon. Hard to stand in for Dohn, easy to outshine Trojan alum and fan Adam Rose at LAT. Please let us know about these items:
    (1) The depth chart, especially RB, OL and SS.
    (2) The shoes: Is it just that they’re new and stiff? Didn’t they get them weeks ago to break them in before practice starts? What is it about them that caused the problem last year? How about Paulsen, he broke his foot in last year’s shoes. Would he take a question about this? Are the players allowed to answer these questions?
    (3) Is Randall Carroll just a speedster or does he also have football skills, like good hands, ability to block downfield and the ability to separate from the defender?
    (4) As soon as there is anything to tell about progress on OL, please report.
    (5) Is Micah Kia going to go out as a bust or is he ready for prime time?
    (6) What is the OL doing as long as they are not in pads yet? And the DL? How do they look, especially the new guys?

    Is that enough?

  • Coach Thom

You’d be the first player I’d call on to get us that extra yardage when the game is on the line. Fabulous reporting, my man. Go Blue, Go Gold!!!!!

  • ET

    Great 1st day Jon……..THANK YOU!!!!!!

I’d love to hear more about the Running Backs, how they looked and their depth chart. I, like most of us on this board are routing for Knox and Franklin to get some quality PT.

How did Randall Caroll/Damien Thigpen Look?
How about the O-Line? Xavier Sua’filo, Williams, Taylor and Stan Hasiak?

  • Rob

Great job thus far. Looking forward to tomorrows reporting.

  • Steve

    Great job…enjoying the reports!

Thanks for the postings! After a very dull period on the blog I am back to checking it 20 times a day to catch a new post. I hope you are able to continue covering UCLA, your hard work is very much appreciated.

  • romeojam

AMAZING blogging! Great job! You may have set the bar pretty high, though, for the readers of this blog with this first day of posting…

  • Fan4Life

Wow, what an overwhelming day of info. Thanks for your efforts! You certainly have the pulse of the fans who have become very devoted to this blog.

The one area that never gets old is recruiting and more recruiting. Football and basketball. Every day, all the time. This alone will get you a very devoted following.

Hope to check in hourly for more updates on players and practice.

Btw, have you given any thoughts of changing your name to Blue N. Gold if the UCLA blog becomes a permanent assignment? šŸ™‚

  • devildog-bruin
