Morning, folks. Here's your pre-practice update. Reggie Stokes (right knee) is here on crutches. Steve Sloan (concussion) is not practicing. Nick Ekbatani (left knee) and Jess Ward (right knee) are not here and presumably having MRIs.

American football: too nasty of a sport for a civilized society, but so imbedded in America's male psyche that it is here to stay.
Of course, if all males were required to try to play football at the college level (less than 1% of football sports fans ever did), and were to see how ferocious of a game it is firsthand, then we might lose our taste for this dangerous game.

"Child Please" BE REAL - Tailgating is a violent sport - you should try it sometime and lighten up. You should buy UCLA Football Season Tickets and come back to the comments with a more informed opinion rather than a misinformed diatribe.

so are you saying that the 1% of people that did play football at the college level are no longer fans of the sport?

And so it begins!!!! I hope those boys come back soon! This is where our recruiting starts to pay off. It will be another baptism of fire for our young players, but we will be better. They will need to grow up fast. We're still a ways off because our depth is still low on the OL and DL spots. Let's pray that there are very few, if any, more injuries as we come out of camp.
As for BE REAL...Have you ever played the game?!?!? It's an e-ticket ride emotionally and physically when you're on the gridiron. Almost nothing compares. Jumping out of airplanes, skiing/snowboarding down a expert hill, or bungee jumping is dangerous too, but some of us enjoy the thrill!

BE REAL - I agree with you that there are just too many injuries in this game. That said, I love football and the kids who play fully understand the risk they are taking. Those who don't want to risk injury are free to put their efforts into other pursuits.
That said, injuries are a problem and I really wish we could have some rule changes to reduce the amount of injuries.
