Just call him ``Butters''
Jayson Allmond is just a freshman, but he already has a nickname, ``Butters''.
Let Allmond explain.
``Coach (Mike) Linn gave it to me. Basically, I'm a hammer, but the handle is not strong enough yet.''
In other words, the hand is like butter and slips off the hammer, because the handle is not strong enough.
Linn is the team's head athletic performance coach.
Allmond said he's always been focused in the weight room, even in high school. The Bruins haven't maxed out in the weight room yet this season, so I got a few numbers from when he left Bloomington High in Fontana.
He benched 365 pounds, power cleaned 270 and squatted 455.

So why is he Butters? Little blond hair on top of his head? Crazy parents? Shy?
"Everyone knows it's Butters... That's me!"
If benching 365, PC 270 and 455 squats makes you "butters" then call me "partially melted hydrogenated lard."
Iexpect his power clean to be the one most increased throughout his time here. Especially under a former strength trainer. Benching that already is amazing, the squat is already pretty powerful when you consider he is 260, but i should think he would be able to power clean much more than he weighs as well. It would be interesting to hear a follow up on this in about a year or so.
455 for a 260lb athlete is decent, but he should get higher. his bench is good
Am I the only one who doesn't understand this at all?! Butter? Hammer? Slippery? What are they TALKING about??!!
Allmond is like a hammer at fullback. But, the hammer isn't strong enough. So, he drew the nickname Butters, because if you try to grab the handle of the hammer with your hand, it will slip off. I'm not saying it makes the most sense, but that's why Mike Linn gave him that nickname. Obviously, the guy is no slouch in the weight room if you look at the numbers that he maxed out at in high school. I'm guessing Linn is using this nickname as a motivational tool for him to get stronger.
I agree, the whole Butters thing doesn't make much sense.
