Then there were five
If you've been to practice and wondered who the fifth quarterback is, it's walkonTed Landers, a Serra High of Gardena product. He joined the team on Friday and part of his decision to walk on at UCLA was for Norm Chow. He already knows Bruins history, too.
``Coach Neuheisel was a walkon,'' Landers said. ``It's a great opportunity. I know my ability. I know I can play with pretty much anybody. I've just got to come out and prove myself and learn as much as I can.''

The symmetry with Neuheisel is charming, but if this kid ever takes the field at UCLA it will be an unmitigated disaster! (Anyone remember McCleod Bethel-Thompson?)
I would still choose bethel-thompson over kevin craft
4 freshman and one senior is scary we need to bring in a JC kid to balance out the classes
JC kid????? Develop what we've got. KC is showing improvement. Last year he was confused and petrified. Is there any wonder?? Now, he's settling down, thanks to Coach Norm and what looks like a half-way decent OL.
Landers looked pretty good when he was in.
He was throwing to all world WR Robert Woods last year in HS.
Landers had in interesting sr season at Serra. 162/245 for 2646 yds,37 TDs & 6 Ints. And the stats could have been much more padded but appears either he played only half games or Serra ran the ball in the 2nd half of many blowouts.
And if the info at MaxPreps is correct, Serra was 13-0 before losing to Oaks Christian in the CIF Finals. They had no answer for Malcolm Jones who scored 4 times in the first half. It was close for about 12 minutes.
During the season, Serra beat Compton, Taft, Cathedral.
I saw Landers play last year. He had a great line around him and explosive athletes. That said, he was exposed in that Oaks Christian game. He is slow to read the defense, doesn't move well in the pocket and locks onto his receiver. His best asset at Serra seemed to be his height. I should add, though, that it was his only year playing in the Cavs system and it appears he did pretty well in practice yesterday.
I agree with Peter.. bethel thompson is still beter
MBT was not an "unmitigated disaster." When Dorrell threw him in the game against Notre Dame, he was awful, but I think that was due to Dorrell's incompetence, because when Walker put him in the LV Bowl (after simplifying the offense a bit during his tenure as interim coach), MBT put together a pretty decent drive at the end.
MBT, if he had not transferred, probably would have been the starter last year after Olson and Cowan went down with injuries--which is a big "what if" question.
Bethel Thompson didn't really light the world on fire at Sacramento State last year. Would he have been better than Craft last year with the same horrible Offensive line??
