UCLA grad in the White House
Here's a column I wrote in today's paper on UCLA graduate Camille Johnston, who works for Michelle Obama. It has nothing to do with Bruins basketball or football, but I figured there might be some interest in what Johnston does for the First Lady. Sounds like an interesting job.

yay!
shades of Brett Farve to Khalil Bell?
and so it begins. what a farce!
Jill no worries good story!
ugh
Please just stick with sports. Thanks
Interesting story.
And the comments section can highlight how many Jill haters are also Obama haters (and, my guess, Trojans) -- which is also interesting.
let's see, wanting this ucla sports blog to cover, oh i don't know, ucla sports?, makes someone an obama hater or worse, a trojan? Riight, that's the ticket. okay, keep drinking the Kool-aid, buddy.
Jill
Good story and idea, people are not happy with the change and are in a foul mood with the loss.....it will get better with time.
actually I believe this blog is "Inside UCLA" not "Inside UCLA - Sports Only". So leave Jill alone, she works hard and does a great job.
Thanks for the post Jill, Good way to keep the blog going during the weekend before practice starts!
U guys going to start cryin' on what Jill posts again? Ya know, Brian's job position is open, so apply if you can do better. Tired of you guys acting worse than little girls.
I enjoyed the story. While surprised to see a non-sports story here, it was refreshing and a good read. Variety is not a bad thing, particularly when there may not be UCLA sport stories to post about today. Some people should try to lighten up and enjoy life. Thanks Jill!
its the offseason, whatever. at least its not sc week.
Hopefully she won't go down with the administration.
Please plug more of your non-sports related stories on a sports blog! Sigh.
Interesting story, but I'm wondering why they had a sportswriter cover it? Is she a former ucla athlete in some capacity? Or is everyone over there forced to pull double
duty now?
Jill, I'm all for stories about UCLA graduates but how about giving some love to some recent news on UCLA graduates who are showing promise like golfer Mo Martin and tennis player Elizabeth Lumpkin.

Hi Jill,
I thought it was an interesting story. Hang in there.
For all you idiots complaining, realize that in order for this blog to continue existing the daily news needs to continue existing. So instead of opening your mouths and shining light on your incompetencies, head on over to the daily news website, read (or don't read; nobody cares) and give the website some more traffic so the advertising revenue keeps rolling in and this blog continues to exist.
FYI, UCLA is a 21 pt favorite against San Diego State

numbskulls, appearing on this blog are.
emerge they do, whenever a break occurs.
a good hire to replace Dohn, the primary directive is.
take some time, it may.
close, the Jedi Counsel is, to commandeering this blog.
football football and more football please. Thank you.
What a pathetic start.
A UCLA alum going from mouthpiece for the Dodgers to the same position for the First Lady is a very interesting story, and it most definitely has a sports connection. Just because Dohn ran this as primarily a football/basketball blog doesn't mean that any of his successors have to do the exact same thing.
Jill's only mistake here was her semi-apology that the story had nothing to do with football or basketball. It was relevant to UCLA, and to sports, and definitely belongs here. All you primates (or trojans) who are ready to pounce on anything you don't like not written by Dohn (but were afraid to stand up to him), go back in your caves.
Hey Toejams, fake Bruin and haters, stay away from this Blog and lay off Jill. The story was perfectly fine during a slow sports news period and I am glad it was reported here. Grow up and remember the manners your parents taught you!
You Tube has a new video on -- UCLA Basketball New Ballers in Town ?
Slow sports news period? Football practice starts tomorrow!! There's tons to write about. I'm sure Dohn would have had a bunch of posts up leading into fall camp. Not realizing this and instead posting some trivial blurb was not a wise start. Personally I didn't mind the story but I can see how it sends the wrong message: "Dohn is gone so we no longer have anyone who can do this blog right so we're relegated to fluff pieces."
Whoever is in charge of producing content for this blog needs to know only 2 words: football, basketball. Otherwise the hits on the site will plummet very quickly.
Someone at the Daily Bruin should try blogging. They get access.
Why not let me enjoy the sports section without referencing the Obamas... I prefer to live in the present because they are messing up our futures! A
I am a true UCLA fan, as are most of the others posting comments on this blog. We have a right to voice our displeasures and that doesn't make us trojans.

Can the Daily News get some dailybruin riffraffs to man the blog for now instead of silly jilly??? Attn Blair Angulo when they give you the reigns run with them, and make sure you stick to FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL ONLY.
Hello? Anybody there? I know this is a busy political time and all but fall camp opens today...
Good story Jill. As a proud Bruin, any info on UCLA alums doing well makes me happy.
>> make sure you stick to FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL ONLY.
Exactly how many of our 104 NCAA national championships are from basketball and football? How many Olympians have come out of our football and basketball program? We are a much more well-rounded school to have such a narrow-minded focus. It is laughable to proudly proclaim ourselves as the leader in NCAA championships yet ignore all but two sports which add up to only 10% of our total.
I, for one, would appreciate more coverage of other Bruin sports, especially the women's sports like softball, water polo, golf, and women's basketball. The UCLA athletic department has finally invested in a serious coach for women's basketball and the program needs all of the support it can get, including fan and media support, in order to regain national prominence.
No school can claim a NCAA national championships in football, not even U$C!
Nice piece by Dohn today.
I'm all for variety but women's sports (not to mention golf and softball/baseball) are about as interesting as drying paint.
Wow.. you people are ungracious. Jill tries to report on something UCLA related and you crucify her. Gee, could it be because she's a female trying to operate in a male world? Ask Erin Andrews about that! I'm a female, too, and I think your article was great, Jill. Don't let these ummm macho males dissuade you from doing what you love.
