Derrick Bryant commit
Looks like Scout.com is reporting that Defensive End Derrick Bryant out of Columbus Brookhaven has committed to UCLA.
He has some freakish speed off the corner:
I'll get a hold of his coach and see if I can chat with him tomorrow.

is this a silent commit jon do you happen to kno foster of la times said we have a couple silents
We don't want him. He doesn't jump up, knee the quarterback in the head, do a dance and flex his muscles every time he makes a tackle.
He looks ok in this film, but theres another video floating online of him in more recent action where he looks very slow and weak.
Cool
What I like about Derrick besides his size is that he is pretty athletic. He ran the 300H and threw the discus last year at Brookhaven. He isn't Thigpen fast in the 300H, his PR is only 48.16 but then again he is 6'4", 230lbs. So his 40 time is probably legit. A track guy could probably give more insight into how things translate.
I've read he has put on some more weight since last year and if he can maintain some of his speed, he could end up being a very nice DT in a few years. After seeing the Canes lighter and speedy DTs, it would be cool if UCLA could develop a few in that style.
Good pickup.

I hope you were being sarcastic. He was anything but slow on this video. What do you want NFL pro bowlers, lol.
I said on the other video you moron. This isnt freakish speed....If you want to see freakish watch Ronald Powell's video.
NICE COMMIT! Thanks 4 the info Jon. We need those big DL players with freakish speed!
GO BRUINS!
Easy anon 5:02/8:42. I guess you arent over 16-13 yet.
pretty funny site to send to your trojie pals.

You have to think there is something for UCLA fans to worry about here when no one in the Big 11 (especially hometown Ohio State) wasn't recruiting him.
PLH55,
maybe you need to do a bit more research... it took me about 3 minutes to find that Michigan had offered him... of course I am assuming you meant Big 10 when you said Big 11...

He meant big 11 because there are 11 teams in the big 10 conference
Does anyone have any insight on future recruits for 2011, especially RB's? Like who is high on their list..thanks
Michigan may have offered but the schools really hard after him were UCLA, Kentucky, Louisville, and North Carolina I think...not sure but schools along that calibre...It was just shocking to me that none of the Big 10 (Big 11) schools were his chief pursuers.
PLH55:
You're trying to be too clever in your "analysis" here.
If Michigan offered him, that means they were very seriously pursuing him, does it not?
What, in your opinion is the difference between a pursuer and "chief pursuer?"
And, wouldn't it be that only chief pursuers would make an offer, since each program has a limited number of scholarships available?
Finally, every program has different needs and evaluates talent differently. I think our coaches have done a fine job in their 2nd year, so your non-expert commentary really is not persuasive.
Time for UB to weigh in on recruiting -- AGAIN:
1. "Stars" mean nothing. Proof is in the pudding.
2. "Verbal" commits mean nothing. Wait until they enroll.
3. We don't know what we don't know. And we know only half of what we think we do know.
4. Here's my analytical process: Come Spring, who has enrolled and is in pads. Come Fall, who has enroled and is in pads. Come gametime, who is in pads and who performs on the field of play. Then, I'll issue my "stars."
For real of course.
But the coaches have to make decisions on these kids while they are pups in high school. Not a job I would want. I mean, how many "can't miss" high school athletes are there-- maybe 10% or so.
It says he's 6-6 in that video, but scout has him listed at 6-4 and it says he runs a 4.55. Can that be right? Looks like a good get nevertheless. Bruins on the upswing.
